[Closed] I sense you there.
Who: Karin and Juugo
Where: Amegakure
When: Backdated! Year 68/AGS 1 in July, when Karin was visiting.
Notes: Juugo gets the courage up to meet a foreign visitor. Well, sort of.
Juugo usually watched visitors from afar. He didn't need to be close to feel them, after all. But this one was different. Nagato had been excited for this one, Juugo could tell, and that made him curious.
Two of his older friends, little songbirds, were with him today, as Juugo slowly edged closer. He felt nervous, and reached fingers up to touch his earrings again and again as reassurance. She had red hair like Nagato did, and glasses, so maybe there was a relation there. He knew Nagato had relatives.
But if he got much closer, he'd have to introduce himself to be polite. Juugo hesitated, peeking around a corner at Karin. Maybe she didn't want to be disturbed?
Maybe he should go. Yes, that might be a good idea...

"I hope so, he invited me." She smiles up at the older boy. Or she assumed he was older, he definitely had the height to be. "So far. It's wetter than home but comfortable enough."
She shrugs, unsure what to do now. It had been so long since she'd faced such open and innocent curiosity that it almost made her feel like she should be on her best behavior. And she didn't see a reason not to entertain him; he didn't give her a bad feeling to make her think otherwise.

Juugo is fairly certain that’s not something bad to tell, and he likes sharing. He knows a lot of people can’t actually feel Nagato in the rain, or his chakra up in the clouds, at least not the way Juugo can, but it’s a reassurance to Juugo, and one of the reasons he rarely bothers to wear protective clothing from the wet.
His bird friends complain in little unhappy chirps when the rain hits them though, fluffing their feathers huffily. Juugo laughs. “I’m sorry, but you two should be used to the rain by now.”

"You talk to the birds?" It's an obvious question. She'd clearly just heard him do that, but the way he spoke to them... it was like he understood the chirps the way she understood him or Nagato speaking to her. It was something new and actually fairly interesting from where she stood. She'd actually like to investigate it a little if Juugo would let her.
no subject
"Yes. They've been my friends since I was small. My older friends were from before Ame, and they don't like the wet as much as my new friends here."
The birds didn't care quite as much about Nagato as Juugo did, and while they could feel chakra, it didn't mean to them, so they complained. But they liked Juugo, so they stayed, and it made Juugo very glad.

"I had a stuffed pink rabbit doll as a child, he was my best friend. And he had to approve of any new friends too." She could understand having friends, granted her rabbit hadn't been alive, but he'd been as real to her as the birds were to everyone. "I think he would have liked you."
no subject
"What happened to him?"
He doesn't remember what happened to his, but it had come out and done terrible things, and that can't happen to everyone, can it?

Which reminded her she should send the toy off with Peter the next time she's able to convince him to stop by Uzushio. Well threaten to anyway, he'd have to really upset her to make her actually do it.
"Maybe if you visit Uzushio sometime, you can meet him."

It’s a little sad that the toy is sitting and doing nothing, but some days Juugo has trouble spending time with all his friends, so he supposes that is something about becoming a ninja, if not being older.
“Maybe when I’m a little better I can leave Ame.” He would have to get more than a little better. It would be hard to be so far away from Nagato, even with the earrings, should it try to come out.

She heard his hesitation, but when he's ready she wants him aware of what he'll be in for. She was social and she tended to drag her friends around to meet new friends if she had the opportunity. It was getting less so, but when it happened it was something of an affair.
And then that last statement hits her full force and she tilts her head, "Are you sick?" Concern flashing in her eyes as she studies Juugo searching for outward signs of illness.
no subject
"No..."
Not sick. Cursed. Juugo shuddered at the memories, curling up on himself and wrapping his arms around the chest, head down. He didn't want to talk about it, but she was confused and... She cared, Juugo thought. He should explain, but how?
"I'm not safe. Before Nagato found me, when it came out, people died. He helps, and it hasn't come out in a while, but I'm still not safe enough."
He looked at his hands. He could still feel the blood, almost see it, and it made him want to rub them until the feeling went away. He clenched them instead, and returned to hugging himself and repeatedly touching the earrings to make sure they were still there.
no subject
"You're safe enough right now." She murmurs her eyes watching him curiously. There must have been something special about the earrings with the way he was playing with them. But she wouldn't ask for the moment. She wanted to take his mind off of this since it seemed to make the boy upset.
"Can you tell me about your birds." She asks in a very blatant change of subject.
no subject
Well, the question distracts him and he relaxes, thinking about his friends. "They're my friends. When I was very small they took care of me and helped me find a nice, warm cave to stay in."
They did a lot of things for him when he was small, so Juugo tried to help them in return now. He made sure they were fed and had a place to nest, like they'd done for him, and if they didn't quite like the rain, so much, they were still happy enough.
no subject
"That was very nice of them." And she doesn't mean that sarcastically as one might think. She didn't have anyone to take care of her in the immediate aftermath of losing her parents, so it actually comes out a little jealous. A little bit not a lot.
no subject
Some of them were dead now, but birds didn't live as long as people. Juugo remembered them all, and that was enough. He was a little surprised though. Most people had trouble believing that birds would help a person, because they couldn't understand them.
It made Juugo smile more, because Karin apparently did understand.
no subject
"No they didn't. I'm glad they did though." Because without them she might not have met him to know she wanted to be friends with him.
no subject
"I'm glad too." About his friends, about about talking to Karin. It was nice, and he felt good, now that they were talking. Juugo relaxed more, a small, happy smile on his face.
"Most will be out getting food now, but you can meet them, if you want, later."
They would like Karin, Juugo thought. They didn't always like people, but Juugo was pretty sure Karin would be an exception.
no subject
"You'll have to translate for me. I don't understand them like you do." She grins wide, excited to meet his friends. Heck she was excited just to see as much of Ame as she possibly could while she was there.
