[closed] mission report
Who: Uchiha Sasuke and his regrets about taking these missions
When: 03/03 - 03/22
Where: Through Land of Rivers and through the woods, to the Land of Wind we go.
Notes: It doesn't pay to be pretty.
Dates: March 03 - March 04
Objective: Meet client, determine security detail requirements.
Description of steps taken to meet said objective: Met with team (one chuunin, sensor-type). Departed Konoha evening of third; rendezvoused with client caravan at designated location morning of fourth. Owing to previous acquaintance, detailed introductions not needed. Decided on simple two-shift rotation with team.
Notes: Caravan was determined to be not high-security trade goods but was cumbersome in size, requiring considerable man and horsepower (paid for and provided by client) to move. Speed of travel is primary obstacle; others are not expected. Speed will allow thorough reconnaissance of surrounding area. Chuunin B- assigned to day watch shift.
Dates: March 04 - March 10
Objective: Reach border of Fire and obtain entry to Rivers.
Description of steps taken to meet said objective: Due to caravan size, obliged to choose route with widest roads rather than fastest route. Client was initially displeased until arrangements were made (at client cost) to stop several nights at inns rather than camping on the road.
Notes: Reached border of Fire without incident. Chuunin B- remained on day shift due to confusion on part of client re: which room was hers on first night of journey. Client requested ninja presence in her room but was persuaded that security concerns were not enough to warrant such a step.
Dates: March 10 - March 20
Objective: Cross Land of Rivers, obtain entry to Wind at the border.
Description of steps taken to meet said objective: As in Fire, route was chosen for road condition rather than fastest travel. Although original plan was to stay in inns when available, lack of activity in Rivers resulted in decision to camp and move as quickly as possible.
Notes: Despite quiet, no unusual events until mid-afternoon of the 13th; several explosions within 100-metre radius caused caravan halt. Chuunin B- detailed to stay guard on client and goods, with genjutsu layered in place to hide size of caravan; investigation turned up only bomb sites with no explanation for explosions or identifiable traces of anyone who might have detonated them. The same pattern repeated each day at varying distances up until the 18th, when it abruptly stopped. Concentration of most explosions happened close to the midway point through Rivers.
Dates: March 20 - March 22
Objective: Reach destination.
Description of steps taken to meet said objective: Crossed border of Wind without incident; continued to delivery point for goods and completed handoff of client to hired bodyguards for her return trip.
Notes: Explosions ceased within two days of Wind border and did not start again within the country. Based on commentary by Wind civilians, Rivers has not been as actively involved in trade or communications as before, and visitors from the country have grown rare, which is unusual for this part of Wind.
Conclusion: Aside from unusual explosions in Rivers, mission went exactly as planned. For future missions with this client, a larger team is perhaps ideal, as client appears to strongly prefer having at least one shinobi available in immediate reach.
Recommendations: Recommend further investigation into development or use of firepower in Rivers when possible. Initial examination of bomb sites shows detonation occurred from some manner of explosive implanted in the earth. As they were not directly in the path of the caravan, it does not seem to have targeted client; however, combined with lack of citizen presence in Rivers and persistence, worth a deeper look.
