Gai tilted his head, trying to make eye-contact again with his odd Uchiha comrade. Was Obito feeling okay? Maybe the sun and standing was getting to him.

Honestly, Gai was certain he had said something wrong, but for the life of him, he couldn't figure out what he had done that made Obito so grumpy. It was probably still best to treat this with optimism and a smile.
