She was beat.

A sigh left her as she laid back against the grass, flushed with her efforts and letting the weight of her tired muscles finally pull her down. It had been a long time since she'd been on a tougher mission. She'd been doing missions around the village to help keep steady pay, but all she'd been able to do otherwise was train. As good and productive as that was... It got boring after a while.

She could go for some takoyaki, but at the moment just lying there and looking at the sky was all right. Feeling the cool air hitting her face, letting her body having a few moments' rest... It was nice for a winter day. And she was close enough to the village that lying out there felt safe, at least then. How much longer would it be so, though?

Sometimes doing mundane things made Itachi feel utterly surreal. Less than twenty-four hours ago he had been completely disguised and furtively making his way back to Konoha, laden with enough secrets to merit the killing of ten men, let alone a lone nin no one would miss for a few days. Now he was wandering around in the open air of Konoha, his shirt emblazoned with a crest that made sure everyone knew exactly who he was. The Uchiha symbol on his generic black clothing marked his clan, and his distinctive long hair, tied loosely back with a some soft ribbon, declared his given name. It made him a little nervous--twitchy and tense, though people smiled. Itachi retreated behind politeness and formality, and everyone expected it of him. After weeks of being utterly someone else, even the shield of formality didn't feel thick enough for Itachi. He's settle down in a week or so, but, for now, he would just grin and bear it, literally.

Despite his offers of picking things up from the little open market with its fresh produce and even fresh fish for his mother, Itachi found himself seeking much quieter roads and alleys before his bag was even half full, rambling through Konoha to reacquaint himself with his home and figure out what had changed in his absence. He coughed from time to time, but the cold was finally getting better after whatever the medic had done to him yesterday. Maybe just getting back to a familiar place had helped. The sad thing was, once he was used to being here and more relaxed, he'd be off again. Ah, well, life went on. Now, what else had his mother wanted?
