Who: Neji and Obito
When: August 3rd
Where: Hokage Tower
Notes: A new(ish) assignment for a rookie ANBU begins :)
Neji still wasn't sure how he felt about his new assignment as Obito's bodyguard. Sure, it was rotational and yes, he had an excellent track record when it came to escort assignments, but this wasn't a caravan or random member of a distinguished and/or wealthy household. Uchiha Obito was Konoha's Hokage- the singular most important person in Fire Country- and that man's life was currently entrusted to him.
Given he was all of seventeen years old with five years of field experience, Neji truly wondered about the purpose of this assignment. If it was meant to make him sweat then it was working, because for all his skillset was geared toward protection, he was relatively certain he wasn't qualified for this. Or maybe he was, and the only person blindsided by that information was himself. Perhaps this was simply Obito's way of showing him that, of visibly placing that faith in him. For all it was humbling, Neji could only straighten and perform that duty unwaveringly.
Which currently amounted to standing around said Hokage's office and doing his best impression of a statue. Alright, so maybe he exaggerated a few things. After a few hours, Neji decided the only reason he was on rotation was because no one liked guard duty, and it was a good way to make the new recruit feel important. Obito could well take care of himself after all, and a glance around the office revealed the greatest threat to be a bird flying too close to the window.
But that was fine. He had plenty of practice at staying still and silent from reconnaissance assignments and the various other bodyguard missions he'd taken over the years. He could vacate his own head and stare at nothing for hours without so much as twitching. However, that was only possible when there weren't any distractions.
Obito did not work quietly.
