Kakashi not knowing explained the immediate link to the Uchiha, at least, a minor relief. It also afforded the hope, however slim, that news of the engagement hadn't travelled so widely yet that people outside of the village were hearing of it without making direct inquiries; that meant that the eventual breaking of the engagement wouldn't hurt Hinata too much.

"It's not alright," he said shortly, and then glanced around: however isolated the alleyway was, it still wasn't precisely an unobserved conversation spot. "Can we find somewhere private?"

He paused, then added with a wince: "And not so ... bright?"
