He asked, complete with a shocked little blink and a point toward his own chest as though Gai had confused him with someone who would ditch and purposefully make himself late for a meeting he knew he had to keep. The truth was that he'd straight up given the kids a day off as a reward for their hard work, but Gai didn't need to know that if the assumption made him react like that. Kakashi supposed, if he really had to pick a word for it, it would be endearing. Or cute.
"If ditching is what I'm doing then you'll be my accomplice, won't you?" he asked, already subtly steering Gai down the road leading to the main district, right toward the string of street stalls already open for the day. "I won't keep you long." Probably a lie, but he was sure Gai wouldn't mind.
