[CLOSED] I will not bow. I will not break

Who: Tenten, Hatake Kakashi
Where: Kakashi's apartment
When: BGS 3: October
Notes: Tenten and Kakashi get to talking about their issues over dead fathers

Tenten felt numb.

Well, that was not completely true, she supposed. Her skin still prickled with goosebumps in the autumn breeze. Tightening her grip around the scroll in her hand, the kunoichi could still feel the familiar burn of tension in her limbs - the skull-splitting ache in her very bones - that came after a particular hard training session. Even her chakra pathways seemed to buzz with life from all the jutsu summons and seal releases Tenten had subjected herself to, pushing forward and on until the world began to tilt and spin in her vision. And if not for Gai-sensei's intervention, she would still be pushing herself to the very edge of her limits.

But even with the physical pains that came with a day of intense work, her mind could conjour little to no sense of self. Inside, it was as if there was an empty space that nothing could seem to fill. And that hollowness seemed to press out in all directions, squeezing at her chest and clenching around her throat until she choked on the very air that filled her lungs. And if Tenten were completely honest with herself, she had been stewing in that state for quite a few weeks. Her time away in Uzu had only been a momentary reprieve from the realities of the world, taking her away from everything that reminded her. Now, though... it was as if she was in the very thick of it.

Loss was not something new to her - she had lost her mother at the young age of nine, and a newborn brother that same night. And it had been a sad time in Tenten's life. But nothing could compare to the devastation she felt in finding - in being the one to find - Shirou...

This was the life of a shinobi. Death came in droves, and those lost to the winds were left to be remembered by the broken pieces who still remained. For her father, that only left Tenten and the few frequent customers who dared not find their wares elsewhere. And while she could still pretend and internalize and play the part of the well-adjusted subordinate, she could not hide from everyone's watchful gaze.

Because the sun continued to shine. Time ticked on. And everyone else seemed to move on with their lives as if no significant change had occurred. Even when hers felt like it was falling apart at the seams.

Looking back down at the scroll in her hand, Tenten could not help but have a distinct feeling that was the reason behind Gai-sensei's little 'errand' he had for her. Because the Green Beast had every reason to simply send it to Kakashi via summons - or in person - rather than have her play messenger. In fact, he had done so in the past. Why was this instance any different? Still, while eccentric and unorthodox, his intentions were always good. And so, with a deep breath, the kunoichi balled up her fist and rapped lightly on the wooden door of the apartment.
