Fire red, flaming spread

Where: Somewhere outside Konoha, in the forests of Fire country

When: mid-April

Who: Sakura and OPEN (to those willing to be near a forest fire)

Notes: Sakura is practicing her fire and earth skills. At the expense of trees. You could say it's a mostly controlled blaze.

She was still new to fire jutsu. There were a few basic ones she'd learned over the years just by observation and reading, but it wasn't until Shisui had offered to teach her fire jutsu as well as genjutsu that she'd seriously began to study and practice it.

Up until this point, she'd been careful never to use her fire jutsu outside of strictly controlled conditions. Fire was inherently far more dangerous than earth. Earth could be deadly, but improperly controlled earth was less likely to cause trouble than improperly controlled fire in the middle of a forest or a battlefield.

The trouble was, mastering a new nature took time, especially one as difficult to handle as fire. If she wanted it to be useful in battle before then, she had to find ways to control it with her other jutsu.

And that explained the current situation: herself standing in the center of a small clearing, fire raging in all the trees around her, three trees deep. Oxygen was scarce, water less so. Doing this kind of training on her own was...probably not the most advisable strategy. But, taking along anyone could have endangered them, as well.

At worst, she'd summon the lizard friend she'd made and escape that way.

For the moment, though, she focused on her chakra control. Not over the flames; she didn't have that kind of skill, but over the ground underneath the trees.

In a moment, if it worked, she'd be able to smother all of the flames and encase the trees in rock. If not...well, at least she'd get some of them. And that would make dealing with the others that much easier. As long as she could stay conscious.
