I am all for adventure in your life, Kakashi, but I agree. This outing has been a bit much.

So far they have had no trouble, and Gai felt he could reasonably surmise that if there was an enemy still out there, they would have attacked before Gai arrived, while Kakashi was most vulnerable. He didn't think he would have to conserve energy on the way back, but too much speed courtesy of the Gates might not be great for Kakashi. The dogs might not be able to keep up, but they could follow and watch his back. Gai knew the way home. ]
