Raining fire - [OPEN]

Where: Konoha

When: June 3rd, just after noon

Who: Sakura and OPEN to anyone in Konoha

Notes: Sakura tackles the sky exploding in the best way she can. Moving the earth.

She'd heard from her master last year that things were brewing, and since things had begun happening around the world and in the village that shouldn't...well, it was obvious that it had to be when Shisui had been speaking of.

As much as she realized that, and as much as she had personally thought continuing Chuunin Exams were an unlikely maneuver to work...she still didn't expect it when explosions rang through the air. Flashes of brilliant light flared across the horizon and smoke blocked out the image of the Hokage monument before anyone near her even began to scream.

Paper bombs?

Specks of white fluttered through the air carried on unnatural wind, and began to fall over the section of the village she stood in. Around her, the civilians began to shout and flee into buildings that would almost certainly collapse on them if tags were to land on them.

Questions of who, of how it could have happened without any warning in the city, were for another time.

She dropped to her knees and planted her hands to the ground--anything other than this full contact would be too little, too slow. "All of you please get down!"

Pillars of rock shot up from the alleys, from the street where no one stood, and even from earthen rooftops around her, flattening into a shield above the civilians against the explosions. If she could have, she would have covered the village with the shield. That was not within her capabilities. Rock and earth spread out across the sky beneath the falling tags as quickly as she could manage, but with each explosion above, rock would explode into dust, and chakra would be spent on sealing the holes again.

It felt like the explosions continued to rain and explode over the city for hours, but it was far more likely to be minutes. Her heart pounded hard and her head spun with the sudden drop of chakra and the effort of maintaining a protective roof over...three blocks, perhaps. Four, if a partial block counted.

Bits of the cover began to crumble away as she panted in exertion, and smoke curled down into the darkened portion of the city, filtering through the streets as it filled the village as surely as the shouts and crashes of chaos.

Could it be...finished?

She lifted her head warily, vision swimming briefly, and looked around the street and into the village beyond. Was the attack isolated...or would this opening volley be followed by a wave of soldiers over the walls?
