[backdated: June 7th]
Who: Sasuke and Gai and YOUTH
Where: Med station for the Chuunin exams
When: June 7th, during the exams
What: Sasuke is annoyed because he's been blown off by one of his sometimes-teachers, and runs into the very person said sometimes-teacher recommended.
Status: For Gai, but anyone who wants to stop by the med station is welcome!
It probably wasn't fair to be annoyed with Kakashi when Sasuke himself had been annoyed by his Chuunin exam duties only yesterday, but there were really only so many excuses he could listen to before he began to fervently wish for a straight answer of nope, too busy. This time, though, his request for taijutsu had led to the new development of nope, look for Gai.
It wasn't as if Sasuke had never heard of Maito Gai -- it was hard not to hear Gai, period -- but he had no formal introduction to the man and highly doubted that anyone would welcome a sudden request for training in the middle of exams.
So it was that he was in yet another poor mood, packing unhappy genin into bandages and splints and out of the med tent without any particular grace.

However, Genin made up the budding talent between villages, and what they didn't know was that there were measures in place to prevent their deaths if at all possible. They weren't always successful, but it was less likely than they led them to believe. And this time around, Neji found himself as one of those preventive measures.
The Genin he held under his arms were unconscious and bleeding against his uniform. A trap activated in the process of obtaining their cream-colored scroll flung a kunai between the boys and detonated the moment it made contact. Not enough time to get away, not enough time for him to do much of anything about it, because he wasn't supposed to save them until it became clear they couldn't save themselves. But they didn't manage to protect themselves, and he'd saved the girl and escorted her out while he took her teammates and headed back for the entrance to the training ground. A little too quickly for the Genin to follow well, but she seemed smart and he'd shown her the most direct route.
She'd been more concerned about her teammates reaching medical help in time.
He'd stopped to treat them with his own limited medical knowledge as a Jounin and ANBU, but he couldn't do a lot more than temporarily stop the bleeding. As they moved back through the forest however, the movements weren't kind on their bodies and they started to bleed through the gauze. Neji reapplied new bandages once more, and that would have to be enough, because he wasn't a medical shinobi and couldn't close their wounds for them.
"Medic," he barked through his mask as soon as entered the medical tent, not caring who it was on duty. He laid the boys down on the nearest available surface. "Heavy injuries, they need prompt attention. Explosive damage, centralized between their right and left sides."

"Off with you," he said shortly to the sulky genin whose shoulder he'd re-set into its socket, sending the kid off to fill out the paperwork to finalize failure from the exams. Giving his hands a peremptory brush-off, he headed for the two unconscious boys -- they were obviously victims of an exploding tag, and something about having an Uchiha in the tent meant that he had the burn injuries by default.
There were times when he wondered if it was medic-nin's passive-aggressive way of punishing him for the fact that his clan had caused so many of them over the years, but that was a suspicion for another time.
"Have they been unconscious the entire time?" He asked, drawing a sterilized scalpel out from the stash underneath the counters and cutting a quick, clean line between undamaged fabric and the parts of the first boy's clothing that had seared to the skin.
