[Closed] Hokage-keeping.

Who: Kakashi Hatake & Obito Uchiha.
When: July 13, 3 AM.
Where: The Hokage Estate.
What: Kakashi comes home from his recent mission and decides to be a creepy, protective mama bird to his friend.

The morning was a pale one; the moon sat high across dark rooftops providing just enough light to illuminate the village paths. Not that Kakashi needed the help given the amount of times he'd made the journey, but the aesthetic was appreciated. The air was still and calm, and as Kakashi stepped across the threshold of the village he was greeted with the comfortable silence of knowing that everyone and everything was where it should be.

It was much too early to hand in his report, and any responsible shinobi would know to respect that etiquette and wait till morning to add to The Hokage's workload.

Kakashi, however, was not a responsible shinobi.

He seemed to move on auto pilot, stopping only when he found himself leaning in the doorway of The Hokage Estate. The way he saw it, this visit saved them both the inevitable scolding when he was predictably late the following day... and if he could use these few collected moments to slyly check his friend wasn't falling apart, well that was a bonus. The only other place Kakashi could go was home, and there was nothing in those four walls that could keep him occupied through his adrenalin kick and the slow burn of chakra drain settling at the pit of his ribs.

It had been three days since his last incognito check up with Obito. On that particular occasion he'd loitered around a corner shielded by his book, with all senses alert to the other man standing a few feet away. He took in every aspect of his physique, watching critically for any sign that everything might not be alright, and left only when he was satisfied that an intervention would not be required.

As of yet he hadn't been caught - and didn't intend to change that any time soon - so it was with careful feet that he approached the house and easily let himself inside.

You're on a bed he's resting on, of course he can tell you're doing something Kakashi. He doesn't say anything though instead waiting for him to finish. "No, but I was expecting something to go bad. It keeps happening lately."

Ah-ha, so that was the cause of all the stress evident in Obito's face. Kakashi was worried he'd eventually have to resort to drastic measures, so Obito divulging the matter himself was a great weight off his mind. His feet uncovered, he turned his body to face the sprawled form of his friend, folding his legs under himself. He leant forward on the elbows resting on his knees, his visible eye blinking expectantly in the pale light.

"Is that so?" He asked, his tone light but inquiring. Obito should know that Kakashi wouldn't leave till he opened up, just as Kakashi knew that when Obito pulled this stunt on him there was no escaping from letting go.

He blinked his eyes open, flicking his gaze over his stance... then grabbed his forearm with one hand, his opposing shoulder with the other, and rolled, pulling Kakashi over him then to his other side in one quick yank of motion before closing his eyes. TIme to see how tolerant Kakashi was going to be because Obito intended to get comfortable.

Kakashi felt the hand on his arm - the same touch that had soothed his back previously - and of course thought nothing of it... until the moment was much too late. Obito flipped and stunned him in moments, and for a second or two Kakashi just lay there with an idiotic look on his face. Once his brain caught up with what had happened, he squirmed in protest but Obito was a dead weight.

"Really?" he sighed, wondering if it was punishment for something he'd done, a side effect of Obito's tiredness, or something else. Either way it was definitely uncomfortably warm.

"Strip if you want, I'm not letting you up and you're pointy." He shifted his arm and adjusted so he was more on his shoulder than his chest. "But yeah. Crap all the time these days."

Kakashi rolled his eyes eye, weighing out his options as he gazed gloomily up at the ceiling of Obito's room. On one hand he was tired, much too weary after his mission - chakra depletion causing every joint in his body to ache and sear on repetitive use - so escaping easily was out of the question. What's more, he wasn't technically unhappy about being there. After all, he had wanted to check up on his friend; what better opportunity than this? His only downside was that he was too warm, so he shifted a shoulder to unzip and shed his flak jacket, and settled back down.

If this was how Obito wanted to do it, fine. Kakashi could play the game.
"Anything I should know about?"

"Assume every mission we send out on will have misinformation from this point forward okay." As soon as he saw the jacket off, he rolled over to use Kakashi as a pillow, half kicking his blanket off so he didn't overheat himself because wow Kakashi was wearing a lot. Summer, eagh.

The realization suddenly struck Kakashi that Obito did a lot of wriggling. It was like sharing a bed with one of his hounds, the smaller ones that needed to find the perfect place on his bed before they could even think about sleeping and so would snuffle and prod at every inch of his bed before settling.

"That bad, huh?" he asked when Obito had finally stopped moving. He didn't mind being used as a pillow too much, but was it ever a fuss. All this for a heart to heart.

To be fair, if Obito wasn't fidgeting it usually meant he was being worryingly serious so it was a good sign, that he was squirming into a spot he liked. It was stupidly hot though and Obito was vaguely grateful that Kakashi was the one against the bedding because being cuddled on would have just. Killed him. Yep.

"Hinata's in the Hospital yeah."

At those words, Kakashi takes a moment to pause and let them sink in properly. Then, he drops the hand that isn't trapped under Obito's body into his friend's hair; a gentle little pat and ruffle that he hoped spoke the comfort he wished to show.

"How is she?"

"She'll be okay... and I think it'll be the kick in the ass Sasuke needed to turn up the medic training like I keep telling him." He sighed out a long breath and shook his head. "Gai keeps sending me apology flowers for letting her get hurt. He was with them."

Kakashi listened, unable to quench the little burst of pride that came with hearing Obito say more than five words.. Sure, it might have been because he was waking up, but Kakashi didn't care.

"It wont hurt him to have something to work towards, I guess.." he shrugged, consciously using his free shoulder so he didn't disturb Obito on his other. He couldn't help the little chuckle at the mention of Gai, though. "I hope you have enough vases."

"Don't worry Kakashi I'll start putting them in your place when I have too many." He shifted, then snuggled in under Kakashi's chin, knowing that he could get away with it even if practically no one else could. Thought he first time he'd tried that Kakashi had punted him on accident, reflex and all, so he was always a bit cautious.

Kakashi grumbled a noncommittal noise at The Hokage's words, moving his head to accommodate for Obito's mop of hair. The last thing he wanted was a mouthful of it after all. Obito had a habit of forcing himself into the most impossible and inconvenient positions for Kakashi.

"You'll break his heart." Kakashi teased, setting his free arm behind his head casually.

"Please. He'll understand. I hope. If not don't go stirring up trouble okay? I'll sort him out without you poking him at me." He nestled in, finally stilling as he got into a comfortable position. Sure his ANBU knew Kakashi was in here, but that didn't mean he cared. It's not like anyone would tattle.

Kakashi chuckled. "You're implying I have any control over him?" he asked incredulously, pat-pat-patting absently at Obito's soft hair. This was a curious shift from trying to figure out why Obito had been so stressed lately; but then Gai as a tangent was never surprising.
"There's nothing I can do or will do. He's a force of his own."

"He's directable." He mumbled it against the cloth on Kakashi's chest with a huff. "You know it." He paused a beat. "Are you really going to sleep with that on? I know what you look like under there remember?"

"He's determined, I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I used the trust he has in me against him." Kakashi replied in his best faux scandalised tone. At Obito's next question, Kakashi raised a pale eyebrow. Sleep? Obito expected him to sleep? Here? Like this? Covered in flecks of blood and suffering from his excitement in battle? What a masochist.
"Sorry, I can't." he lied automatically. "If I did the world as we know it is sure to end."

He lifted his head and squinted at him in the dark... then took a deep breath to smell him. "Then go take a shower and come back." He shifted away to let him up. "And I mean it. I'm awake enough to follow you if you bail."

"Yes, Mom." Kakashi groans laboriously as he gets to his weary feet, knowing it would be a waste of time to argue. Besides, he felt gross after three days in the same uniform... and this way he could use up all Obito's hot water instead of his own. Small liberties. He pattered across the room, giving Obito a little wave goodbye as he moved.

When he returned, his hair was still dripping but he was out of old clothes and smelled sufficiently less musty. Hiding his face behind a washcloth about his ears, he padded back into the room, cracking joints under scarred skin.

Obito didn't even open his eyes, instead just rolling over and making room for Kakashi. His teammate knew he was welcome to borrow his things, though he'd be a little surprised if the man crawled in as is instead. He was almost asleep enough he wouldn't have really noticed anyway. Almost.

Kakashi's joints had been soothed so much that his body felt like a weak noodle, the effort it took to raise his feet was extortionate and as soon as he came close to the space made for him, he fell face first into the sheets. The scent he inhaled was nostalgic and he muffled a light sigh into the pillow.

"This wasn't what I planned to do tonight, you know.." he commented, turning his head just slightly so he could be heard.

"Deal with it." It was a mumble, and as soon as he determined Kakashi was sufficiently flat, Obito rolled over and tucked against him, absently, though curiously noting his state of dress as he went about getting comfortable.

"Do I have a choice?" He mumbled, softening as Obito curled next to him and responding in kind. He hadn't seen Obito since he left for his mission, and it had been longer than that still since they'd been this close. He wondered, egotistically perhaps, if Obito had missed him.

"No. I'm going to back to sleep now." It was a mutter, and once he was sure Kakashi wouldn't easily escape, relaxed, fully intending to do as he said.

And Kakashi was an idiot if he thought Obito didn't track when he was gone.

"Mm-hm," Kakashi replied, hand dropping automatically into Obito's hair again. He took one last moment to study Obito's face, content in the knowledge that he looked much better than he had when Kakashi had first walked in, before his eyes finally gave in to the dull sting of tiredness and closed. He was asleep in moments.
