Notes: He was sent to pick up a merchant and drop off some paperwork that needed a ranking nin to protect it. Of course that left him with a couple days of lag time to account for.

He'd dropped off the paperwork just hours before, and in the process made sure that the Hokage was aware of his presence. That meant that he had a group of watchers following him around, he could practically feel their eyes burning into him, but he didn't mind. So long as he was permitted to do as he liked within allowed areas, then he saw no issue with being watched so closely.

Primarily checking on the two Konoha shinobi that actually had even the remotest hint of importance to him, actually, but he was in no particular hurry to get there. He had until the morning after next before he had to leave again after all.

"You live close to the shop?" He looked at her rather curiously for that. It would explain her quick gift turnaround.

"It's a large building," she told him. "The storefront and kitchen are on the bottom floor, and we use our basement for a storehouse. We sleep upstairs."

He nodded once to show his understanding, gaze taking in everything. "Such an unusual place for a shinobi. Do you intend to remain there as you grow?"

"I plan to move out and find a place to myself once I reach Jounin," she explained. "Nii-chan is set to inherit the store anyways. When I start taking long-term and more dangerous missions, it will be easier to not burst in on them at odd times of the day and night."

"I've never lived with another person in a fashion where that was a concern.'

Ami ruminated over that. "It can be nice," she said, at length. "My family is, at least. I suppose it varies by case."

"Mine is not." He stated it in simple declaration. It was, after all, a hard truth.

"Hopefully mine is more to your tastes." That might have had... implications, coming from anybody other than her, but she simply wanted those dear to her to get along well.

"Very possibly. They came up with you."

"Mm." Her fingers curled a little tighter in his sleeve, and she buried a smile behind her collar.

He noticed, and was quite satisfied with his result. He wasn't unaware of his affect on others, after all, no one with genjutsu skill could be. He just usually didn't care.

He followed her directions back toward the area her home was in.

She finally released her grip on him as they approached the East entrance to the 'enclosed' District, taking one sharp right down a side street to where her back porch was. She rifled around in the bag slung over one shoulder, coming up with a bag of dried sardines, which she pulled open for the small clowder of stray cats that materialized upon scenting her.

That was... unexpected to the say the least, and his eyes widened slightly as the creatures materialized. Humidity, islands, and cats didn't tend to get on after all and he'd never seen so many at once before. He shifted a step away before easing back in inquisitively.

The cats seemed wary at first, and understandably so, given just how imposing Sephiroth could be without even trying. Amy's scent seemed a good enough voucher for the moment, however, and they continued pawing at her legs, ignoring her companion for the moment. Ami glanced back at him out of the corner of her eye and pulled a second bag of dried sardines out, extending it in an obvious offer.

She looked very... peaceful, covered in cats. Her eyes were sparkling almost as much as they had when she first spotted Sephiroth.

He reached out almost delicately to take the can, peering it for a moment before opening it and leaning down on one knee to offer the animals the treat. "You've been taking care of these for some time then."

"As long as I can remember." About half the cats split off to flow over his wrists and hands, nosing at each other to get at the food. "Because of the shop, I can't keep pets inside. But out here is okay."

"Do they have names?" He held steady, though he was glad of his gloves. He really didn't know how to even begin to approach the fuzzy creatures.

"Some do. Some have owners, too. Micchan over here is a nincat sometimes, and Tatsun and Takkun both really like her, but Takkun's the one who fathered all of her last litter of kittens. Over there is Aochin; he's the big fluffy one." A majestic, large coon with dark fur and a scarred eye was being given first shot at Sephiroth's food. "Aochin is a stray, and I think he's pretty tough. I hear him fighting sometimes, but he always seems to be the winner the next day. I think Suzumin and Chiyomin might be fathered by him, but I'm not sure."

He soaked in the information with complete seriousness, nodding to show he'd taken it all in. "I gather that this is not all of them."
