Nerds doing nerd things
Who: Mika Yamada and Itachi Uchiha
Where: Itachi's pad, aka he needs to move the frick out of his parent's house
When: November 14th
Note: Mika and Itachi being big dumb nerds about Konoha's history.
What did Mika do for fun?
A lot of things, reading, hiking, going to bars and hitting on women--
Today she had decided to get back on one of her projects. She'd been so busy the last month that nothing had gotten done on it. In fact most of them had been neglected. Maybe she needed to have less projects...nah.
Quite a few were specially about Konoha's history. Mika had been digging around the archives for years and had gotten curious about genealogy. Being curious about her own family history, she wondered where everyone else came from. Collecting old censuses and finding anecdotal evidence from families, a large piece of paper was slowly being filled in. Each family was recorded and with each name and connection made the trees became larger.
One family in particular had her interest today, the Uchiha weren't so open about their history. In fact the paper with their names on it wasn't nearly as filled in as many others were. It sort of ruined the whole collage idea Mika had planned. So today, knowing that her very good and very helpful friend Itachi was free she gathered all the papers she could before going to his house. It'd been kind of awkward knocking on the door with her foot and having to explain herself to his mom... without divulging all the details. No good making Mikoto-san suspicious, it was bad enough that Fugaku didn't like her.
Having gotten past the first hurdle of the Uchiha household Mika carefully, carefully dumped her load of papers on the low table in the living room before calling out. "Ne, Itachi-kun.~ I brought something cool!"

He was free, but at what cost, he wondered. He'd been dealing with an on-an-off cold for the past few weeks, which meant he had time to er, relax, but he'd much rather be on missions. Fighting the small urge to cough, lest he ruin his throat, proved to be the most annoying part of the day.
He'd been on his way to his room with some fresh tea (with honey, to soothe his throat), when he heard Mika's voice call down the hall. Ah...she was here? Mikoto must've let her in, she liked the girl alright.
"Yes, Mika-san?" he questions, after appearing in the doorway.

"I'm not interrupting you at all am I..?" He looked a little preoccupied.

"Try not to spill any tea here, the archive leads will have my head if any of these get ruined." They really needed to convert these into digital files. It'd be a hell of a lot easier but then it wouldn't be half as fun.

He'll drink his tea while she works on that.

"Okay, you're probably wondering why I came here to bug you about dusty old papers. If you haven't noticed already, they're Konoha's census records. I've got all of them dating back to the founding. The oldest ones are fairly delicate so I'm trying to not mess with those too much." She stood to show off her family trees. "This is my project, getting the Konoha family trees all in one place." Mika's made some decent progress considering how busy she is.

If documented, it was usually by individual clans and families, and not a village collectively.
"A tasking project." he comments.

numerousguesses were made on relations. It was entirely likely that much of the oldest records were inaccurate. Not that people really wanted to admit to such mistakes, which were inevitable when dealing with decayed fragments of scrolls.
Mika was the first person to actually attempt this. She'd met some resistance, having people say it was a "waste of resources" to try to thread together pieces of records, journals, letters, etc and convince the older families to share their familial history. She felt this was a service to the village. Besides, it was fun.
"Very." Came the reply. Her face lit up and there's the familiar glimmer in her eyes. That one she has when finding something especially exciting. She got the same look when eyeing a cut of exceptional beef. "I like to think of this as one of my major contributions to the world." Or at least to Konoha. Mika dreamed big.
