Nerds doing nerd things

Who: Mika Yamada and Itachi Uchiha
Where: Itachi's pad, aka he needs to move the frick out of his parent's house
When: November 14th
Note: Mika and Itachi being big dumb nerds about Konoha's history.

What did Mika do for fun?

A lot of things, reading, hiking, going to bars and hitting on women--

Today she had decided to get back on one of her projects. She'd been so busy the last month that nothing had gotten done on it. In fact most of them had been neglected. Maybe she needed to have less projects...nah.

Quite a few were specially about Konoha's history. Mika had been digging around the archives for years and had gotten curious about genealogy. Being curious about her own family history, she wondered where everyone else came from. Collecting old censuses and finding anecdotal evidence from families, a large piece of paper was slowly being filled in. Each family was recorded and with each name and connection made the trees became larger.

One family in particular had her interest today, the Uchiha weren't so open about their history. In fact the paper with their names on it wasn't nearly as filled in as many others were. It sort of ruined the whole collage idea Mika had planned. So today, knowing that her very good and very helpful friend Itachi was free she gathered all the papers she could before going to his house. It'd been kind of awkward knocking on the door with her foot and having to explain herself to his mom... without divulging all the details. No good making Mikoto-san suspicious, it was bad enough that Fugaku didn't like her.

Having gotten past the first hurdle of the Uchiha household Mika carefully, carefully dumped her load of papers on the low table in the living room before calling out. "Ne, Itachi-kun.~ I brought something cool!"

With being one of Konoha's oldest clans, plus one steeped in war for a good number of years, it made perfect sense their genealogy wasn't really something anyone else could look up. The Uchiha clan was steeped in secrets, to protect themselves, and it was very likely that not even Itachi himself could dig up information without the okay from the elders.

He was free, but at what cost, he wondered. He'd been dealing with an on-an-off cold for the past few weeks, which meant he had time to er, relax, but he'd much rather be on missions. Fighting the small urge to cough, lest he ruin his throat, proved to be the most annoying part of the day.

He'd been on his way to his room with some fresh tea (with honey, to soothe his throat), when he heard Mika's voice call down the hall. Ah...she was here? Mikoto must've let her in, she liked the girl alright.

"Yes, Mika-san?" he questions, after appearing in the doorway.

"Ah, no, you're not." he explains, taking a moment to clear his throat. He can just move his tea here, take it while he's listening to Mika. She seems to talk a lot more than he does.

He feigns insult for a few seconds. Him, dropping tea. Why, you'd have to forcibly knock it out of his hands to get him to drop it. His gaze is on the scrolls now, looking them over and trying to guess what they were before Mika explains.

He'll drink his tea while she works on that.

The founding...? That's quite an impressive collection of census records, as he originally doubted much was actually documented in scrolls. Most history then seemed to be by word of mouth, leading up to tales being exaggerated and other elements being changed in support of other resolutions or ideas.

If documented, it was usually by individual clans and families, and not a village collectively.

"A tasking project." he comments.
