It's Party Time!

When: February 10.
Notes: Party log. Messages were sent to every person Hinata (and Natsumi?) could think of that Obito would want to see at his birthday party.

Keeping a party secret from the Hokage was like keeping a secret from her father. If given the slightest hint that something was up he would be all over it. Needless to say Hinata had kept the planning crew to herself and one Uchiha Natsumi. The older kunoichi becoming her partner in crime, and more than willing to take the food preparation out of Hinata’s hands and prepare a very lovely cake for the surprise party.

The party wouldn’t be fancy, just a gathering of friends and family members to her sensei in a training ground. The trick however was getting him to come while everyone else gathered. As such Hinata was left with the rather unenviable task of coming up with a fabulous tale to drag Obito out and to the party. Pity too because that cake looked fabulous.

"It was an interesting exercise. I wasn't sure we'd actually manage to keep it a complete surprise." There's a pleasant color to her at the success. It is the Hokage they're speaking of after all. There wasn't much one could get by him if he didn't want them too manage it.

"Have you been well? We haven't seen you at home recently."

Neji shifted. Of course his absence had been noted.

"My apologies for concerning you, Hinata-sama," he said, stalling slightly while he put together what was essentially the truth, with just a thread of misdirection. Because outright lying to a Hyuuga took a lot more than he currently had in him.

"I undertook a rigorous training exercise that left me fairly exhausted, so I spent my recovery at the Station. My additional training as a Jounin still hasn't fully completed."

Concern took over for her mild curiosity. She wasn't fond of the idea of her cousin over-working himself. It wasn't much that she didn't approve, she understood how important it was to him that he made Jounin already.

"I see." She doesn't mention how he could have messaged and how she would have worried less knowing that or that she would have gone to check on him. It was understood. Just like it was obvious that she hadn't tried to check on him, she should have instead of assuming he'd been sent off on another mission.

"You're training is progressing well?"

"It was nothing serious," he assured her with a faint smile.

He didn't like worrying her, but contacting her would've brought her to visit, and Hyuuga eyes just saw too much even without the Byakugan activated. Better she thought he'd been out of the village.

"Well enough, I believe, though there are still a number of things I need to learn. But more importantly Hinata-sama, how is your training coming along?"

She's doesn't look completely convinced but nods, believing that had it been serious he would have sent a message home.

"I'm glad," she didn't have any doubts that it would go otherwise with his being the family prodigy, but she liked to hear such from him than assume such. She takes a moment to evaluate her own progression before speaking again. "Well mostly. Sensei is pushing for me to pick up the speed." It isn't so much a complaint as a comment.

Neji tipped his head, more at ease for the shift in topic.

"Hm, it sounds as though he has something planned for you." Which was ominous, given Obito's own 'plans' for him, possibly involving Uchiha Itachi.. "Or is there something you're training for specifically?"

Hinata shrugs slightly, sometimes she honestly doesn't know what Obito is planning for her. "Sometimes he just picks things to work on at random." Or at least that's how it seems most of the time. She doesn't often understand what is going through his mind when he trains with her.

She smiles, "If he is training me for something, he'll say something more specific eventually."

Neji frowns with a short, disapproving note, not liking the sound of that. Not that it's his place to contradict what her sensei was teaching her, but the direction he was leading her in.. Surely he wasn't stupid enough to recruit Hyuuga's heiress? Uchiha Itachi was one thing, under a different Hokage, but Obito..

"Well let me know if there's anything I might be able to assist you with," he offered, even knowing he'd hardly have the time. He'd manage somehow. "I'd like to support you as much as possible."

She shrugs as if to say these things are fairly normal with her sensei. It wasn't like he hadn't already pressed her out of her niche in taijutsu in the last three years. Honestly she'd be upset if he stopped pushing her as frustrating as the process could be.

Hinata smiles and nods, acknowledging his offer knowing full well that she probably wouldn't take him up on it for the time being. She wouldn't take his time away from his own training. Not that she didn't like training with her cousin but she didn't wish to get in the way of his own studies if she could help it. "You already are Neji-niisan." She assures. It was enough knowing he was willing should she need his advice on something.
