If Gai felt truly foolish about this, he would never have agreed.

Still, standing in Obito's bedroom with nothing but a scarf thrown over his shoulders and another tied at his waist, Gai wondered if Obito was going to laugh at him. Maybe the waist scarf was a little too much.

What exactly was proper protocol for naked scarf dances?

He had been practicing a routine (fully clothed, of course) all day yesterday, and he was quite happy with it! Obito should be thrilled! Plus, there was dinner (which they would prepare together, but Gai was certain Obito would very much enjoy) and there would be dessert, and then they could relax and spend the evening together! It would be the best birthday Obito had had in a long time, surely! That was not overconfidence speaking!

Gai waited until he heard the door close behind Obito before stepping into the doorway between the livingroom and the bedroom. He grinned at him, tossed a tail of the scarf over on shoulder dramatically, then posed with his hands on his hips. "Happy Birthday, my Hokage."

If he could focus, Gai would be done with the preparation soon. It was just a matter of focusing on something other than Obito. He was ...getting there.

He blushed. "Good. I am glad. I have always enjoyed your flirtations," he gave a laugh, "perhaps a little more than I should have when I thought we were just kissing-training! I do not have the same sort of powers, but that will not stop me from trying them on you for as long as you shall let me."

"Gai, I let you kiss me before I realized I was interested in you kissing me. You do just fine." He chuckled and moved to wash his hands, then dried them and moved over to kiss a line down Gai's spine once he was sure there was no sharp object in a position to hurt Gai.

"All done with my prep." He stopped just above the small of his back where scarves tied, then straightened and moved back.

He was done with his own preparations as well and wiped his hands off on a nearby towel. "Fine is not enough! And you say that like I had some effect on you kissing me. You invited me to! After seducing me with spandex!" His protests disappeared into a wavering sigh as he braced against the counter, melting under Obito's kisses.

He looked over his shoulder at Obito. "Which prep, exactly?"

"Food, obviously." He straightened, putting his hands on his hips as he leaned forward, murmuring in his ear. "What, did you think I meant something else?"

"No, of course not!" His hips eased back instinctively as Obito touched him. "Perhaps I considered it, but-- Ah! Anyway. I am done here! Whenever you are ready!"

He kissed under his ear and grinned. "I'm ready for a lot. Dinner first though. Mmm?"

"Yes, dinner first." The thought I would not mind having you for dinner flitted around his head as Gai made sure his preparations were wrapped up. "I am ready."

He nodded and hummed. "We should probably do the cooking part then. You know, with the stove."

"Perhaps, if I was not a little pinned at the counter." He was hardly pinned by Gai's standards--even by a Genin's standards--but that didn't change the fact that Obito was still behind him.

He kissed the back of his neck, then release dhim, stepping away. "Right right. There you go."

His back felt cool with the space between them now, but Gai skimmed past Obito to wash his hands, then moved over to the stove, collecting the cooking oil and the pan. He lit the burners and put the fish on to cook.

"If you would please look after that, I shall be right back, after I set the table!" After all, he had a mood to set.

His eyes followed him as Gai moved around, shifting over to lean on the counter out of the way. "Course. I'll be right here."

"Thank you! I will be right back." Gai collected the utensils and napkins and disappeared into the adjoining room. He wasn't really well-versed in romantic dinners, but candlelight and flowers seemed a must, and Kakashi had encouraged it! So it had to be right.

He set the table with his supplies from the kitchen and retrieved (from their spot hiding in Obito's room) those he had bought with him. Gai arranged the tea-light candles into little colorful glass bowls he had bought specially for this, with the roses (Inoichi's daughter's suggestion when Gai explained it was for a date; she did her best to deter him from the sunflowers and gerberas he was usually attracted towards) tucked between the candles. He lit the candles, then dimmed the lights and headed back into the kitchen to make sure dinner wasn't burning.

"Would you like to have a seat and wait? I can bring dinner out to you."

His lips twitched at the shooing gesture, and he stepped in, kissing his shoulder. He saw nothing wrong with being so affectionate at the moment, after all.

"I dunno, the view in here is really good... but if you want I will."

"It is up to you." He leaned back to kiss Obito's cheek as he cooked up the fish. "But I do not mind an audience, if you so desire."

"I think I like being an audience." He moved back to his former position. "So I'll just be right here mm?"

He wouldn't argue. He quite liked being watched by Obito's eyes. Gai bustled about the kitchen, very aware he was putting on a show and trying to impress, both in showing off his best assets and in showing off his cooking skills. It wasn't too long before he had finished, though, and was trying his best to artfully arrange the food on their dishes. This was more difficult than he thought!

He snickered softly at the fussing. "Food likes to not be pretty. I wouldn't worry about it too much."

"Hmph! I want things to be perfect!" Then again, Gai would never be content with perfection--there was no such thing! One had to keep striving to be better! So maybe he was going to have to finish up the arranging before the food cooled. "Okay! There!"

He grinned and carried both plates. "If you will please get the wine and the glasses, I believe dinner is served, Hokage-sama."

His lips twitched, but he obliged, collecting the items in question and padded out, steps slowing as he took int he display. "Got fancy on me I see."

"It is your birthday! It should be fancy!" Gai set the plates down at their respective place-settings and looked at Obito uncertainly. "You...like it?"

He put down the glasses and bottle before sitting, pulling his chair in. "It's great. I think this is the most elegant birthday set up anyone's given me."

Gai was grinning ear to ear and snapped out of his pleased stupor too late to push in Obito's chair like a gentleman. He fussed, then, over pouring the wine.

"You deserve to be pampered and spoiled! I shall have to outdo this next year! Perhaps it shall become tradition!"

"Careful, you'll have to fight people for a party like happened last year, remember? That was a big to-do. I'm shocked Rin didn't hit me with one this year honestly, woman loves parties." He leaned over, touching his wrist. "I like this just fine though."

"If they want to throw you a party, that is fine! Just so you are properly spoiled." And Gai was surprised about Rin, too. He expected Rin to occupy Obito's time today. He raised Obito's hand up to his lips and kissed it, then poured his own glass and took a seat.

"I did not prepare a toast, I apologize, but" he raised his glass and waited for Obito to do the same. "To my beloved and youthful Obito. Happy Birthday, now and forever."
