Who: Pengin and You!
When: March 14 to whenever he returns to Uzushio
Where: Uzushio starting out and then a slow meander through Fire Country to Konoha
Notes: Pengin gets to go collect a clan-kin's shopping from Konoha. Because that's what you do with younger clansmen right? (I apologize for the stuttering he'll do now, also top levels for a few general locations you can run into the penguin)

She shakes her head and squats down, studying him. He says he's fine, but she wanted to make sure for herself just in case. He was so small compared to the rest of the villagers it was a wonder he didn't get missed more often. Or maybe he did, she wouldn't know for sure without asking. "I should have been looking down a bit more. You sure you're okay?"

Though not actually injured in anyway Pengin shifted a little away in nerves when she moved down to be closer to his height. Mostly from confusion, because many wouldn't give up such an advantage just so he wouldn't have to look up at them when speaking.

"I-it's a-alright. Not m-many look down."

And there's an attempt at a smile, though it's shaky it's still geniune.

"I-i r-really am alright. T-thank you for asking t-though."

There was no reason to treat it as a loss of advantage though. They were from the same village after all. There was no reason to expect hostilities from the other. It made her frown slightly that he shifted away; though she did understand from her training the reasoning.

"I should know better," she'd been on eo the smallest once upon a time. Not as small as him but small all the same.

But he's smiling even if only tentatively, so it can't be all bad.

"I'm Karin," she offers figuring that since he wasn't familiar to her she probably hadn't met the boy yet, which was a nice change of pace when one realized that Karin knew most everyone. "And I'm glad you're not hurt."

"I-it really is alright Karin-san."

It wasn't the first time he's been bumped or accidentally punted by an over excitable clan-kin flying into a room.


"P-pengin of the Maniwa clan. N-nice to meet you." His smile firms a little more as he bows his head in polite greeting.

[sensethis]

She doesn't look so sure but nods anyway, "If you say so." IF the boy was alright who was she to argue with him.

But her lips spread into a smile when he returns the introduction and nearly chuckles when he bows his head. Such a formal and adorable child. "You too Pengin." She pauses thoughtful and then stands up, not out of disrespect but it was starting make her knees hurt crouched down like that. "Where were you headed? Maybe I can help keep you from getting run over again."

"A-ah, I-i don't wish to c-cause you any trouble Karin-san."

The slight flapping of his arms at the thought of bothering someone is only stopped when he nervously tugs at the ear flaps of his cap.

"I-i'm just collecting travel supplies is all."

[sensethis]

She just shakes her head. "It won't be any trouble."

She smiles and on a whim bends down and scoops Pengin up. Her hold tight enough to life but still easy enough to escape if he wished to.

"Ah. Isn't that usually more fun to do with friends?"

If it wasn't for the fact that he was both used to being picked up and moved around by older and taller clan members, as well as not really feeling anything threatening from her he might have reacted a bit more strongly at suddenly being removed from the ground.

Instead he reflexively kicked his feet out in the air as if trying to find solid ground that should be under them again before settling and looking up into Karin's face. A bit more flustered then normal.

"I-i-if you say so K-karin-san."

Oh no that was adorable and the feeling reflects in the bright smile she shines on the small boy in her hands. She settles him against her side when Pengin relaxes so he isn't just hanging in midair without support. Her head tilting a little to the side at how he stumbles over his words. He's been doing it all along, but she wonders now if she's been making him nervous or if it was just a normal habit.

"If nothing else you'll get done quicker."

"T-thank you v-very much Karin-san."

If he wasn't unsure on how exactly to do so he would have bowed again. Instead it was an awkward sort of head bow because he didn't want to jostle the hold she had on him.

"I-it's not much to c-collect as it's not a long distance journey. So i-it shouldn't take up too much of your time."

It would have been fine, she has him settled nice on her hip like one might carry a small child. So unless he squirmed around a great deal Karin was fairly certain she wasn't going to drop Pengin or lose her grip. "I've got nothing but time today, so we'll take however long it needs. Besides it better than taking inventory at the hospital." She says it with a smile and tilts her head. "So where to?"

"T-travel rations and a few i-items that need to be replaced. Umigame-san said m-my flint was too worn to be reliable."

Once he let himself think about his task it was easy to relax enough to go with it. Large eyes instead looking around the area for a general vendor that held most of what he needed at a decent price.

[sensethis]

She makes a soft ah sound and scans the market as well. She knows of a few stalls that sell travel rations and flint to varying degrees of quality and price. But then she could only guess at the ambiguous items that need to be replaced. Instead she waits for Pengin to tell her which stall would suit his needs. Ignoring the curious looks some of the passerby's gave them. This was totally normal people.

It didn't take long to notice a decent looking flint on the same table as a small sewing kit that had the needles he had been missing after a certain training accident.

"Ah, K-karin-san. C-could we stop at the stall with the sewing kit please?"

[sensethis]

"Of course." She turns altering their path slightly and moves toward the stall indicated by her passenger. Shifting him a little higher on her hip as she goes so he doesn't accidentally get dropped on the ground and smiles at the merchant.
