Briefly resting.

Where: Konohagakure, at the banks of Naka River in Training Ground D.

When: May 14th

Who: Adela Milani ([personal profile] abileunaspada) & OPEN

Notes: Training just isn't happening, so instead Adela's just dipping her feet in the river and getting lost in thought over life in general. There's been so much happening, and although she's been keeping a low profile, how much longer can that last?

--------------------

The river water was still cold, even with spring shifting more and more into summer-like temperatures. The sweaty kunoichi just sighed as she looked to the sky, using her towel to wipe off her forehead and setting her shoes beside her before she let her feet rest in the river. That'd help her cool off, but she didn't feel right. It was weird, that training wasn't really clearing her head, but...

There were too many rumors floating about between shinobi for her to ignore anymore. Sasuke was in hospital for a while or outright not around, and she didn't know why (though she was partially sure it was mission related, there was likely a lot more to it than that). There had been kidnapping attempts in the village -- thankfully, those were thwarted but it still happened. Again. And the whispers of increasing defenses for Konoha, and political unrest in other regions... Maybe there really was war on the way.

Adela just sighed, her eyes on the sky. A war. She was probably lucky to have a moment to breathe like this, even if she was in Konoha. Her thoughts were interrupted when she picked up on someone approaching - even if she couldn't tell how she knew at the moment. That was when she sat up, looking around and calling out (though at that point not bothering to get to her feet just yet), "Someone there?"

Naruto's expression fell at that. September was a horrible time for everyone, full of fear and pain and worry... He remembered the look on the faces of his parents, the worried penmanship in the letter he'd received from his Mom, the look of Adela's face... The dark cloud was starting to crowd in on them too, he could feel it hovering over where they sat despite the sun glimmering brightly high in the sky. He looked across to Adela, saw the sadness in her downcast eyes.... and decided he wasn't going to put up with it. He'd seen his friends unhappy for too long now, the least he could do was show them a little sunshine while he still could - before things got too hectic.

He stood up, untied his jacket from about his waist and dropped it on the bank, then he shed his shirt, rolled the cuffs of his pants up-- and all of a sudden he was taking a running leap at the river, splashing into it with a loud smash of water. He bobbed his head out of the surface, hair damp and wild, but his grin was massive.

"Come on in!" he grinned stupidly. "It's nice and cold in here. If ya don't I'm just gonna splash you till you get in!" Yeah, this would distract her.

"Aaah, it's not that bad, c'mon!" He splashed her with a big handful of water. "You gotta move around to get used to it, otherwise you're just gonna stay cold!"

That was much better. The smile on her face was just as infectious as his was, and he couldn't help but laugh as the dark aura around them disappeared to be replaced and encouraged by the brightness of the day. He'd make sure to keep people's spirits up even if it wore him out, especially with someone so close to his family.

Naruto flailed and spit out the water that had caught in his mouth, trying hard not to inhale it as he laughed. It had been way too long since he'd had fun like this, and he was going to make the most of it! In the commotion of Adela pelting more water at him, he made a quick movement to duck under the surface till he could see her legs, and tugged hard on one of her ankles to dunk her under the water with him.

Having her under the water meant it was easy for him to propel upwards and climb onto her back for a water-piggyback as her head bobbed back up into the fresh air. Thanks to the weight displacement of the water he was as light as a feather, and clung to her tight with a stupid grin as he held her close.

"See? Ain't that much of a reason to be so downcast. Whatever comes our way, we'll get through it together y'know."
