[Closed] Turtles Ahoy!

Where: Hokage Office
When: Late on the evening of the 18th of May.
Who: Obito and a baby turtle. And Gai, eventually.
Notes: He was not running that late but Gai apparently noticed anyway.

Obito had noticed that it had gotten dark a while ago, and while there was the niggle that said he should probably leave and eat soon, he just hadn't managed to find an end to the paperwork in a way that said it was something he could do yet. He was sure he'd manage it in an hour or so. Completely sure, but he'd told himself that an hour before that too, and hadn't since checked the time to realize how much time had passed.

The last thing he expected, after leaning down to retrieve a fallen paper though, was to end up nose to nose with a turtle smaller than his palm when he came up a moment later. Suffice to say, it put a pause in his thoughts for a moment on the paperwork front.

And then made sure the button was jammed when it declared that it had been sent to remind Obito how late it was, and demanded a sweet for its trouble.

"I suppose I should."

Chelan made a noise of protest and said something about wanting dango. "Next time," Gai promised him, pulling the little turtle out and petting his shell gently before releasing the summons in a puff of smoke.

He laughed and peered at Gai's hands, then mirthfully to his face. "I don't think that he'll thank you for that."

"I did not expect thanks for it!" He laughed. "I will be sure to buy him some dango. All will be well if he has something sweet to eat." Chelan was going to be insufferable now that he knew Gai would give in as well! It was worth it, Gai decided, for the time alone with Obito and to have Chelan, young though he may be, as a reliable messenger to his fiance.

He leaned into his arm and pulled him up the incline to his house. "Is he one of your new favorites?"

"They are all my favorites! I cannot pick favorites among my summons!" The silly grin was back and let Obito lead him up to the house. "But he might be a little more favored. You like him, I hope?"

His smile turned wry as they came up to his door. "He ambushed me."

[morningpeacock]

"Not necessarily a bad thing! I happen to think you need to be ambushed once in a while!"

"Is that so?" He got to his door, then reached out, absently disabling the traps on it before unlocking the door itself.

"Yes, that is so! It keeps you on your toes!" Before Obito could enter, he slid an arm around Obito's waist and kissed his cheek. "I like keeping you on your toes!"

"Keep me on my toes too much and I'll fall over." He smirked up at him, then tipped himself dramatically toward him, expecting to be caught before he fell clean tot he floor. "See? There I go!"

"Maybe I want you falling for me!" He took the opportunity to not just catch Obito, but sweep him up in his arms bridal style. Gently kicking open the door the rest of the way, he carried Obito inside.

He used his foot to push the door shut behind him, honestly having expected him to do something like that. The man had a flare for the dramatic, after all. "I have no doubt about that, but I already fell, so now what are you going to do?"

The ANBU would see to it the door was properly locked. Gai would see to Obito.

"Hold you, always. Fall with you. Never let you go." His gaze was intense and focused on Obito. "...And!" He swung around dramatically and carried him towards the kitchen. "I will make sure you are well fed, because I believe my Hokage expressed that he was hungry!" And a man could not live on dango alone, no matter how much of a sweet tooth he had.

He'd flushed a bit, always somewhat weak to Gai's intense moments, but the abrupt shift in topics had him laughing. "Yes, well fed too."

Gai laughed too. "I will take very good care of you and be the best husband you could imagine, Obito! That is a promise! I will try my best and keep trying until I get it right!"

He reached up and ran his fingers along his cheek, tracing the sharp lines of his face. "I dunno Gai, I think you've already set out to take pretty good care of me."

Gai teared up and he bowed his head into the touch. "This is building on that promise. I will never stop trying to be my best for you."

He huffed a breath, then leaned up, hooking his arm around his shoulders so he could kiss him properly. "Ah Gai, you don't have to try to do your best for me, you do it flawlessly."

Gai kissed him. "You flatter me." He shook his head, blushing. "And you are also distracting me! Obito! I am supposed to be taking care of you and instead you are letting me kiss you and be charmed by you! I should put you down before you distract me further!"

"You probably should yeah." He laughed and kicked his feet, aware there was nothing for him to kick over nearby. "I'll just keep driving you nuts otherwise."

"You drive me nuts even when you are properly on your own two feet." He hesitated, not actually wanting to put Obito down but finally relenting. "And I like it."

"If you didn't like it, you'd hardly live here, would you?" He raised his eyebrows. "Let alone anything else."

He wasn't trying to get down.

Obito was as perplexing as he was charming. Gai gave him a slightly confused smile. "I thought you were hungry."

"I totally am." He rubbed their cheeks together. "Positively starving."

His cheeks grew very warm and he glanced out of the kitchen in the direction of the bedroom, then back at Obito. Was he just teasing or was he saying...? Sometimes it was rather frustrating to be with a man as clever as Obito. In any case, it was a very good thing he dispelled Chelan after all. The turtle was entirely too young to hear such possibly suggestive things.

"I see." Or he thought he saw. He lowered his voice, lips brushing against Obito's cheek. "Then what shall we have on the menu?"
