Suna Chunin Exams!

Where: Sunagakure and the surrounding desert. Village Map.
When: June 4th-30th

Event Details
Suna does not require examinees to be part of a team to participate. However, if you came with a partner or team, losing one of them before the end of the second part of the exam will leave you disqualified.

4th: Starting at ten in the morning, those being tested will be gathered in the northmost part of the Bazaar and each will be handed a ribbon with a number on it and which is either red, blue, or green. They will then be sent to find the shinobi with their matching color and number in the bazaar before they leave the area, and tail them without getting themselves detained by their target.

Please note that those being tailed will give two chances to genin following them before detaining their tails.

Any who fail to keep an eye on their target or catch back up to them by three in the afternoon are disqualified.

4th-9th: At three o'clock, after all tailed shinobi are gathered in one place, all genin present will be escorted out of the village along the road north past the fork east before being given their next instructions.

This will take about three hours and once their destined point on the road is reached, having met up with another shinobi group who will have sets of wrapped packages. Each package will be either a sun, moon, or star, and all competitors must have the full set in their possession before arriving at their destination, which will be the Demon desert fort.

All competitors are advised to not unwrap their packages until away from other teams, and teams will be released into the desert in the order which they arrived to the meeting place in Suna after tailing their local.

Any who do not arrive by seven PM on the ninth will be disqualified, as will anyone who is missing a teammate. Only after this point in time will lost genin be rounded up and returned to their joinin.

27th- Opening Ceremony: At six in the evening the opening greeting will be declared. Suna will only be greeting civilians and shinobi of allied countries!

28th-29th: One on one tournament matches are held.

30th- Closing Ceremony: At noon the closing ceremony will be held, then everyone is free to return home.

Yuffie could have said more but for a moment she watched Sephiroth in disbelief. "What?" How do you live without fish? In fact most of Yuffie's diet was fish and rice.

She followed after Sephiroth hurrying to walk beside him. It was hard to keep to his pace because her legs were significantly shorter than his.

"What do they have then?" As far as Yuffie's concerned nothing beats fish, unless they have sticky pork buns.

Exploring officially wouldn't be as fun but it would be doing something as they waited. The truth was Yuffie was a little excited to watch the fights but there was so much down time waiting for that to happen. She had her eyes on a few of those participating and she wonders how they'd do. While she wasn't one for betting she did like making judgement's which was perfect for this sort of event.

Of course these were judgement's she made to herself.

Her gaze shifted to Kisame curiously. "Yeah. Do you ever get bored." She wasn't sure he was capable of that sort of emotion.

"They're yours currently. I know the first exam after I stepped up felt strange, since I could claim all my shinobi for it... but it gets more familiar with time." He looked sideways at him. "Are you so sure you won't stay in the post? I can assume you have Daimyo approval, now."

"I do. I've just had time to learn to hide it well."

He grinned at her, happy to leave it at that and let her figure it out. Truthfully there was always something that needed to be done. KIsame didn't have the time for boredom, especially now. He had a feeling that the matches would settle their new daimyo a bit, so it was just a matter of locating a way to keep her from getting dangerously bored until then.

"Let's see if we can locate an escort to satisfy the intricacies of diplomacy, eh?"

"Because our new daimyo is one of Sephiroth-san's. But she's honest; she'll be good for Water Country once she settles. As for me..."

Kisame grimaced. "I do this for Kiri. I am not a leader. I'm too honest for politics! They actually had the gall to accuse me of assassinating the nobles in the capital because I'd threatened to rip out their tongues and feed their lies back to them once or twice. Though that ended well enough. Nanako-san is a force to be reckoned with when there are liars around."

He leaned over, lowering his voice a bit and his expression wry. "I'm an honest guy too. It's kind of why Yagura and I didn't get on, he liked to say one thing and do another and I'm not chill with that sort of thing."

He shook his head with a wry smile. "We're currently three for five with younger leadership Kisame-san, think about it."

Yuffie smiled at that and then rolled her eyes. He might be some sort of guard but it's hard not to see the person that she knew before. He was someone she had wanted to but heads with, to see what she could learn and it wasn't so easy to annoy him.

"Sure." She giggled softly. "I wonder what they would see fit to even show us." She followed Kisame thinking that he must know where to go to do just that. Yuffie was thankful for the distraction. So much has been happening lately she hadn't let herself stop and think.

Luckily there was always something to do.

He huffed a breath, aware he was being teased and unsure how to feel about it. "No, my interest is not with the few Kiri genin still in the exam. I believe you will find my reasons interesting once you see them in action."

He was quiet for a few paces, trying to decide which part of the local gourmet to horrify her with first. "There is scorpion, which is surprisingly good, and several reptile based dishes."

Okay, now she knew he was doing this on purpose. "Sephiroth!" She was pretty sure that scorpion was poisonous.

"Like... snakes? eww" That was too gross.

Kisame gives a quick glance around and sighs. "That's the least of what he did."

Louder, he continued. "I won't turn Kirigakure over to any but the best, but I think you know better than most why my record makes me a leader many won't be able to stomach following."

It wasn't untrue. Was it a reason that couldn't be overcome? Kisame didn't know, but he did know that he wasn't cut out for politics. Honesty was one thing. Poking the hornets' nest with a stick was another. Kisame had gotten away with teasing the Uchiha clan head a little bit--not all of it intentional--as an envoy, but as a Kage? That would be an unforgivable misstep.

"I'm sure whoever has caught your interest is worthy of it. The matches will be very interesting this year."

One of his cousins had made it to the finals this time, which probably made the trip to the desert worth it. She knew how the desert could sap her chakra now, in the subtlest of ways. But Kisame wasn't going to play favorites. As far as he was concerned, very few of the ninja were really worthy of chuunin. Many of them would make it, of course, but he had to remember to talk to Nanako about more stringent preparations for genin.

"Probably more than they would show average ninja."

After all, Suna had to know that Kiri had a spy network inside the village, beholden to the Mizukage, and theoretically the daimyo, to deliver a constant flow of information about their ally. It was only good to be prepared, especially considering all the attacks recently. Kisame walked casually down one of the public avenues, wondering if he could locate Temari-san. She was interesting and good company.

Yuffie shrugged. "Guess so."

She followed behind him looking around at the setting curiously. Every time something caught her eyes she had to make an effort not to just go running off towards it. She wanted to learn more about this place, about everywhere.

With things as hectic as they were knowing more would be better.

Kisame saw her interest get pulled by things, and well, they weren't in a restricted area at the moment. "If you see something interesting, go look. It won't do any harm"

Probably. Unless by bad luck she stumbled into something secret and being hidden in the open.

Yuffie watched Kisame for awhile longer before taking a sharp right and running over to check out a store front. It wasn't anything special but it was filled with a few shinny things from knifes to gems. Both of which were things that Yuffie adored.

She wasn't really paying attention to see if Kisame followed her but after a few seconds of looking she'd step deeper into the store.

"Indeed. The food here is quite good, but you will find it incredibly unusual. You will, of course, need to eat while you're here or it would be considered an insult."

Clearly he couldn't have just let her pretend.

"She's an intriguing girl." He nodded once, just slightly. "We have an agreement to spar when she might be a challenge for me in some way."

Which was a bit off, he knew that, but clearly didn't mind waiting.

The color washed from Yuffie's face. "You're kidding right? No one said anything about that kind of torture."

She swallowed feeling her stomach turn.

"You do, eh? Now that will be an interesting spar to watch."

Kisame almost suggested sparring with the girl in question so she'd get stronger faster, but sometimes it was harder to spar at the appropriate level for someone far behind in strength so that they'd get stronger without crushing them mercilessly.

Kisame made sure the others were aware of where Yuffie had gone before following her over. The knives were far more interesting to Kisame than the gems, but watching the reactions of the shopkeep was also interesting too. Not often did someone known as a foreign dignitary go around looking at shops, after all!

Kisame didn't see any reason to interrupt either, really. She was keeping herself busy, and thus out of international incidents.

Yuffie walked up next to Kisame holding two knifes and a few gems in her palm once of which was a necklace. Important or not she was still a girl and she liked shinny things like a goldfish.

"I got what I want." She glanced down at the knifes he was looking at. "I'd get the one are the far left."

Kisame considered the blade she pointed out. It was a very good blade. Did he need another?

"You have a good eye. I wasn't thinking of making a purchase, but--" Kisame looked at it for a moment more and then shrugged.

"Another weapon never hurts!"

"Maybe, maybe not. Have you asked your people about it? You'd be surprised what they want, sometimes." He gave him a knowing smile, then laughed, looking to the arena to check that they were still doing setup before looking back.

"You're a polite man Kisame-san, that's better than most."

Yuffie quickly stashes her two new blades from sight sliding them against her hips. "Yeah I didn't expect there to be such a cool find." She then loops the necklace around her neck before stashing the last few things in her pockets.

"Also you can never have enough blades and it's not very expensive." Which was always a plus for Yuffie since stealing was out of the question for her now.
