Suna Chunin Exams!

Where: Sunagakure and the surrounding desert. Village Map.
When: June 4th-30th

Event Details
Suna does not require examinees to be part of a team to participate. However, if you came with a partner or team, losing one of them before the end of the second part of the exam will leave you disqualified.

4th: Starting at ten in the morning, those being tested will be gathered in the northmost part of the Bazaar and each will be handed a ribbon with a number on it and which is either red, blue, or green. They will then be sent to find the shinobi with their matching color and number in the bazaar before they leave the area, and tail them without getting themselves detained by their target.

Please note that those being tailed will give two chances to genin following them before detaining their tails.

Any who fail to keep an eye on their target or catch back up to them by three in the afternoon are disqualified.

4th-9th: At three o'clock, after all tailed shinobi are gathered in one place, all genin present will be escorted out of the village along the road north past the fork east before being given their next instructions.

This will take about three hours and once their destined point on the road is reached, having met up with another shinobi group who will have sets of wrapped packages. Each package will be either a sun, moon, or star, and all competitors must have the full set in their possession before arriving at their destination, which will be the Demon desert fort.

All competitors are advised to not unwrap their packages until away from other teams, and teams will be released into the desert in the order which they arrived to the meeting place in Suna after tailing their local.

Any who do not arrive by seven PM on the ninth will be disqualified, as will anyone who is missing a teammate. Only after this point in time will lost genin be rounded up and returned to their joinin.

27th- Opening Ceremony: At six in the evening the opening greeting will be declared. Suna will only be greeting civilians and shinobi of allied countries!

28th-29th: One on one tournament matches are held.

30th- Closing Ceremony: At noon the closing ceremony will be held, then everyone is free to return home.

Obito had considered not going himself, but even with the chaos going on in the village, in the world, he would make sure that Suna didn't feel slighted by their allies.

They simply couldn't afford for their alliances to weaken now, not when the enemy was clearly taking exception to everyone, and everything, that was not on their side. So he'd go, and not expect for there to be another of these for some time, and when he went home, he'd take his shinobi with him. They'd understand, he didn't doubt that, but first he'd see how far his genin had come on this trip, and then he'd get back home.

First though, he'd find and talk to all his shinobi.

Itachi thought it'd be best to remain by his Hokage's side, no matter how much he also wanted to see Sasuke. It was only a matter of time, and he would see him later, along with his team of Genin, whom had hopefully passed.

He's elected to keep his mask on for now, focused on his guarding role.

"Relax a little. You are practically vibrating with alertness." He looked to him, moving easily through the edges of the crowds. "If I get attacked, I won't let it hit me."

"More difficult than explained." came the answer through the mask, though there's a small slouch of his shoulder as he at least attempts to relax. A guard isn't supposed to relax, is his opinion.

"I'm not telling you to sit back with some sake, just stop looking like you'll kill anyone who comes within ten feet of me. We're in an allied village, we can't seem hostile, yeah?"

Being at an exam as a leader of an entire village was different! Especially since he'd also been serving double duty as one of the guards of their new daimyo. But now that the matches were on, Kisame did get a chance to experience the view of the fights without having to be too concerned with keeping up appearances as a guard. It was interesting.

So Kisame sat back in his seat, actually grateful for the hat, though he'd forgone the robes, and stretched before turning to the man next to him.

"The matches promise to be entertaining. It's good to speak with you in person again, Hokage-san."

Subtle, but a reference to the attack on Konoha. To see the Hokage and Konoha's ninja out and about after something like that was a testament to their strength, just as Kiri's presence here was the same.

He flashed him a smile, though it was a bit less carefree before, a tad sharper due to recent stress. It was no less genuine though. "Like I'd miss seeing my genin down there. I have people here I'm personally invested in, and no way was I going to miss them getting their promotions."

He paused, looking sideways with a smirk. "I wouldn't be surprised if the other jounin of your group wasn't here looking into the same people, actually." He glanced off to where the man in question was with the young Daimyo, since the Kage had their own little box, then looked back. "Buuut, either way, no way would I miss this."

Kisame caught the tension and didn't comment. He had a good idea why it was there, and probably had a similar tension in himself. He didn't envy the one who took up the permanent post of Mizukage after them; it was hard, stressful work.

"Taking an interest in Kiri's genin is a new change, and for the better! But, it feels strange to call them mine. The only genin I ever sponsored for chuunin passed the exam years ago. In Suna, actually." Kisame let out a put upon sigh for effect. "It seems the desert won't ever leave me alone."

He chuckled at the comment about Sephiroth. He'd heard about the Konoha genin in question. Sephiroth's interest didn't make very much sense, but it wasn't harmful to him or to Kiri so Kisame had no reason to complain.

"The chuunin exam matches are always interesting, if nothing else!"

"They're yours currently. I know the first exam after I stepped up felt strange, since I could claim all my shinobi for it... but it gets more familiar with time." He looked sideways at him. "Are you so sure you won't stay in the post? I can assume you have Daimyo approval, now."

He'd arrived with the collection of people who had ended up leaders in his country, not the least of which being Yuffie. It was still very strange to think the girl had any kind of authority over anything he did, but he was along as an official guard, this time, so he would simply have to linger near people from his own country.

Even if his eyes were roaming curiously for any other familiar figures he knew. Such as Ami, for instance, or possibly his cousin.

"I'm getting something to eat."

Yuffie announced her intentions as she walked pass Sephiroth. She knew if she walked off she'd probably be asked where she was going so she decided to preempt that question with a very forceful statement.

She was here and she was hungry. She always wasn't sure where food was but she could figure that part out.

"Have you even been to Suna before?" The question was idle, but amused, watching her thoughtfully.

She looked back at him. "Not enough to know where I'm going if that's what you're asking."

Yuffie had no idea where she was going but she assumed she'd eventually run into food. She couldn't help that she liked eating and food was important so it was probably everywhere.

"I was more asking because the food is not likely to be what you... expect it to be."

It was a strange situation. Guards guarding others. Kisame had been too amused to turn down the idea, however in jest it might have been made, to have himself guarding their new daimyo, but as acting co-Mizukage he had guards of his own. It meant Kiri's entourage was both bigger and smaller than it should have been, but it was good to show a united front. There would be no mistaking that they were working so closely together now. The fact that they all had to remain relatively close didn't bother him. Kisame enjoyed the company, and nodded at Sephiroth.

"We'll have an interesting vantage point for the matches, eh?"

"Indeed." He, admittedly, seemed much more interested in the matches than he'd been in Kiri's own, so that perhaps was saying something. "Though I could very much do without the desert sun while the proceedings carried on." He peered up into the sky, then shook his head.

"You'll get a better one, if you move to the Kage box. The Daimyo area has better shading."

"It will prove Kiri's mettle that our genin can overcome that obstacle. But you aren't here for Kiri genin, eh?" Kisame's tone was a little teasing but not disapproving. He wasn't sure what to make of the whole situation that he'd gotten information from several sources about, but it wasn't negative. Interesting, though!

"I probably will. Kiri's relations with Konoha will be useful to us in the future. It's good that I have the hat now. It will keep some of the sun off, and our Daimyo will be in your capable hands."

He huffed a breath, aware he was being teased and unsure how to feel about it. "No, my interest is not with the few Kiri genin still in the exam. I believe you will find my reasons interesting once you see them in action."

These weren't the sorts of things Yuffie often went to but she had been told she couldn't really miss this. There had been a lot of new things for her this month and running off to do whatever she wanted wasn't in the deck anymore. She was in charge of stuff now which was cool but it was a lot of work. What made this trip entertaining was who her guard was. She smiled to herself but for once kept her lips shut. She was happy she wasn't by herself. After what happened she was a little bit more jumpy than before.

She sighed looking around to see if she knew anyone. She doubted it but it was always nice to see someone again. She thought about wondering off but she assumed that there would be a few people quickly following behind her and that sort of thing was no fun with a tail.

For now Yuffie was happy with her inner thoughts to keep her entertained.

It was amusing to be the new Daimyo's guard, even if he also had guards himself. He'd picked two ANBU, one of the Seven, and one in intelligence, and between all of them, no one was getting anywhere near the new daimyo or the new acting co-Mizukage.

Kisame nodded at his new leader actually relishing the strangeness of her suddenly being politically above him. She would shake things up in Water Country, and that would help things change for the better, one way or another. "Enjoying yourself, Yuffie-sama?"

She didn't really want to answer his question. She was bored and it was rude but it was also hot and she still wasn't 100% sure what she was suppose to do besides being a body. Currently an important body but a body nonetheless.

Yuffie looked up at Kisame before looking back around them. "It'd be more fun if I could wonder around." She could go look at things but she needed to stay close to those from Kiri and Yuffie had always been the curious sort.

Dark eyes looked up at him again. "Are you enjoying yourself?"

"We might be able to get away with a little bit of that." Kisame does enjoy pushing things, even if he knows they probably shouldn't. Maybe they can flag down an escort and do it officially.

The question in turn makes him shrug. "It's not as exciting as it could be but I'm not bored, yet. The matches will be good to stave that off and we'll have good seats."

And even if he's sort of guarding, it will be nice to not be fully on guard duty so he can pay more attention to the fights.

Gale had been very curious about how ranking was determined from the beginning, so when the chance to see how these other groups made at least one determination came, and in Suna as well, he had jumped on it.

The dry, hot climate felt almost natural, even if it was so different from the constant damp of Summoning Island. He made certain to ask questions about the nature of the exam to anyone who looked likely to answer, and watched the fights with avid interest.

When he wasn't doing those, Gale wandered where he was allowed, taking in the sights and willing to stop and talk with anyone who showed interest. Part of this was to spread the word of Summoning Island's interest in the outside world, after all, and show their presence to others.

Part of this was to show that Kiri wasn't going to hide from the world, so Kisame had to be on guard and pay attention to the politics and manners more than he would otherwise. They'd made sure to send some genin to this exam, and that those genin were ready, so he was here to watch his villagers--so strange to think that, however temporarily--as well.

At least the hat shielded his eyes, even if he'd declined the robes. Kisame was only an acting Mizukage, after all, and he was still one of the Seven first, so Samehada came with him. There were formalities, though, and so he had guards. But Kiri was entering a new stage, so he also was a guard, for their new daimyo, and it pleased him to break tradition.

Kisame mingled, letting himself be seen and willing to talk with anyone bold enough to approach.
