"I'll let you know when we figure out specifics." She steps back. "An excuse not to get married is all I can think of right now."

"We could elope," he offers after a moment, hoping it's an amusing enough thought to lighten her mood, though he's also not entirely opposed. He's not needed to breed heirs like Itachi is, after all. "Then get divorced."
no subject
"Sasuke that would make matters more complicated and probably have the council demanding I never work with you again let alone spend time with you." They were nothing if not determined to limit her exposure to Uchiha in more recent years. "I appreciate the offer though."

But he's not as critical to a clan as a firstborn, and he's not romantically inclined towards someone else as Hinata is. Naruto is the one who should elope with her, he thinks a little darkly.
"Well, the offer stands if things get too sticky," he says, warmth still in his expression. "We'll think of something else in the meantime."
no subject
"I know. We just have to look and research options. There has to be some kind of precedent for me to appeal with."

"... but I'll have to pull a lot of strings to get access to Hyuuga-specific records," he realises with a grimace. "Both of you fathers are completely on board with this?"
no subject
"I'm not sure...It isn't something even they're likely to have been given much say in." And there's such a sense of defeat to the way she says that. The elders didn't listen unless it suited them, and it didn't right now. She sighs, "Besides my father would never say he opposed their decree...not to me or where I could hear."
no subject
"If you can't rely on your fathers, then we'll have to convince them some other way," he says, grimly. "I'll look into medical records for now, while we think of anything else. Even if it doesn't work, you can at least upset them with pictures."
no subject
"If they're going to make part of my life less than desirable, I should be able to upset them with pictures."
no subject
The thought of upsetting the Hyuuga elders makes his lip curl, at least. "I'll find the worst records on file."
But a second later, he glances at her with a frown. The day he'd been slammed with filing the disordered gynecological records of the hospital had not been a great one for his appetite. "But don't upset yourself with them, either, alright?"
no subject
"Just promise me that when you're picking the pictures out you'll keep in mind that they aren't being shown out of a dislike for the elders themselves just their decision. I don't want to shock them too badly."
no subject
"I'll remember," he promises, though he's already mentally sorting through where he'll need to start in the hospital's dusty archives. For now, though, he looks at Hinata more closely. "We'll figure something out. Don't stress yourself needlessly over it in the meantime."
He offers her his arm, inclining his head towards the exit of the small park: a clear invitation to take it and head out into the eyes of the village. "For now, show them you're not afraid."
no subject
"Alright, I'll try not to." She says with a sigh and takes the offered arm.
For now she'd take small forms of rebellion. And walking the streets arm in arm with him was one that she could and would do without much worry. For once the fact that it might stir the gossip mill didn't fill her with dread but excitement. Let them talk and speculate until the news broke to the village at large. At least it would give the elders a little something to potentially worry about for a little while. "With you at my side how could I be afraid?"
