Student Evaluation Time

Where: Konohagakure
When: About two years ago, after the chunin results were in.
Notes: Closed to Hinata and Sasuke. Who are to be ~~drunk~~ celebrating with their sensei.

Obito had gotten the idea in his head, but it wasn't frivolous. If anything, he had an entirely practical reason for wanting to get the two trashed.

It was because they were his students, and honestly, getting someone drunk was the easiest way to interrogate some people. Being students of the Hokage meant that them being out on mission and unprepared for that? No good. Better he know exactly what they'd deal with in the world so that he could prepare them for it.

Still, he could hardly do it at his house, people would look at him strangely, Hyuuga heir and all, and no way was he doing it at their places. So. Bar.

Which means he was currently on Sasuke's doorstep chatting with Mikoto as he waited for the boy to come out. He hadn't told him why he was coming to get him, just that it was a celebration for Hinata making Chunin. Once he had Sasuke, they'd go get said girl, and then they'd see just what was to be done here.

She nods a little chewing on her lower lip at not knowing what exactly Obito was planning. Sometimes Obito's ideas worked out poorly and the feeling that this would be one of those times only got worse with the announcement of going to a bar.

"Sensei, we're underage." A futile statement but she had to try to reason with him anyway. Her father would kill her if he found out.

Sasuke stared, then stared a bit more, then decided that he probably shouldn't even be surprised. Why was he surprised? This was exactly the kind of thing Obito would come up with.

And their being underage wasn't going to stop him. It wasn't like he didn't know.

"Shouldn't Hinata get to decide her own celebration?" He demanded instead.

"And when Naruto is back, she can pick what she wants the whole team to do." He said it like there was nothing odd here, nothing odd at all. Then again he clearly feared Kushina more than his own clan head and Hiashi combined so...

"That'll be in a couple days, so nothing to worry about, see?"

Obito beamed at them both, then headed straight toward his favorite bar. It was one of the safer ones, so he was confident taking them there.

Hinata looks at Sasuke, clearly unsure of how good of an idea this is. Usually when Obito says there's nothing to worry about there's plenty to worry about. "Can't we just go eat cake?"

She follows along slowly hands wrapped around her waist hugging herself. Her father was going to disown her for sure if this goes as poorly as she's expecting. Understandably she's starting to look a little pale and they haven't even arrived at the bar yet.

Sasuke knows Obito well enough by now to be fully aware that whenever their sensei adopted that particular everything will be fine, this is all totally normal! tone, things were definitely neither fine nor normal. Any bar that would allow obviously underage shinobi in would be shady enough, and any that would allow a pair that were as obvious as himself and Hinata ... was Obito planning to pull rank to get in?

It doesn't escape Sasuke's notice that Hinata looks and sounds thoroughly unsure about the whole thing as well. They've known each other too long for her unhappy stance to be anything close to subtle, and after a moment of frowning at her, Sasuke reaches out and grabs Obito's arm, pulling him slightly to the side to glare at him.

"Sensei, you know how Hiashi can get." He keeps his voice low, pitched a little out of Hinata's range of hearing. "Do you really think this is a good idea?"

He paused, honestly thinking about it for a moment before he reached up and ruffled Sasuke's hair. "Okay, I'll give you guys a little room to breathe how does that sound? Grocery store, then back to my place mm?"

That wouldn't make it as better as he probably thought but it should settle the pair, and nothing horrible could happen then, right?

Hinata actually looks stunned that whatever Sasuke said seemed to have worked. The look of relief that they aren't heading to a bar anymore is short lived. The frown that forms is almost dejected.

"Sounds like you're perfectly okay with corrupting children." She says flatly, shoulders slumped a little and just a little reproachful that he's still set on this idea of intoxicating minors.

Sasuke ducks out of range of Obito's ruffling hand before it makes contact with his hair, well-aware of what purpose it had -- as if he were still a kid again, though if that were Obito's intent then what in the world was he doing trying to get them alcohol --

"Why are you so set on this anyway, sensei?" Sasuke follows Hinata's question with another one of his own, eyebrow raised and shoulders tensed in a combative hunch. A sudden suspicion sets in after a second, though, and his expression suddenly grows sharper: "Are you trying to come up with blackmail material?"

"You'll need to know how you handle alcohol sooner or later. Better sooner than later with me as Hokage now." He paused a beat, then leaned after Sasuke more quickly to catch the ruffle.

"And I have plenty of blackmail for you Sasuke, I've known you since you were born."

Hinata raises an eyebrow at Obito. It almost sounded like he was planning on putting them in a situation where they would have to deal with this. Leaning forward a little she stares up at her teacher, "You aren't planning to drag us to some political party where this will be a thing are you?" Her father would be so thrilled.

She can't help but laugh a little at the mention on having thirteen years of blackmail on Sasuke. She stifles it quickly and shoots him an apologetic look. She didn't mean it. They were coming up on the store and she would gladly apologize verbally then if given the chance while there.

Sasuke made an irritated noise at having to duck out of the way a second time, opting finally to step around to Hinata's other side to get further out of the way and shooting Obito an aggrieved look over the top of her head both for the attempt and the comment.

"Showing baby photos of me to people who don't need to see them isn't the same thing," he said, in tones of someone who had had those very photos leveraged against him already. Hinata's suggestion gave him pause, though -- it made a disturbing amount of sense.

For Hinata. He wasn't likely to need to deal with any more politics than reinforcing Itachi's decisions. Sasuke's expression grew suspicious again.

"Ah, I see we've been paying attention. I'm Hokage now you know. That means that you three will be my representatives out in the world." His expression turned more serious, and he looked first at Hinata, then at Sasuke. "It's not really a choice anymore. It was the same for myself and my teammates. I ended up the one heavily political, but people still tried to use Rin and Kakshi for leverage when they could."

He let Sasuke escape, watching them. "Getting you two drunk without your awareness is a very high possibility if they think I would tell you something they might want to know. It's better you know the sensation of it, and for me to be aware of what might happen."

Hinata breathes a soft sigh unsure that this is really necessary. She's familiar enough with the taste of alcohol from clan functions. At least she thinks she is, granted her experience is limited to a few single cups of sake a year, but details.

"Sensei, I think our experience with alcohol from clan functions has given us enough of an idea on what to expect." Her voice is tiny almost half-hearted with her argument. He's going to tear her words apart anyway, but she had to try anyway.

Sasuke nodded in agreement with Hinata, mouth set in a stubborn line. "If we thought it was a risky situation, we could just not drink. Or drink very little."

He paused, then added -- "Besides, nobody could leverage Kakashi against you anyway. He can make no sense even when he's completely sober."

Seemingly innocently, but Sasuke was reasonably certain that it was a deliberate and frustratingly impenetrable act. It wasn't something he could imagine anyone on his team actually pulling off right now, maybe, except Naruto managing it by accident, but they could probably come up with something. Right?

"I did say try. And what if you two are like that boy a year above you? The moment he gets drunk he goes on a violent rampage. Just because you haven't had enough to be drunk doesn't mean it might not happen. After all, not all alcohol tastes like alcohol."

He paused, then looked rather inspired. "I know just the way! Come on. You like tomato juice don't you Sasuke? And you Hinata, favorite drink?"

"Neither of us are going to go on a violent rampage, sensei," Sasuke said, silently adding the what the hell that such a statement deserved. The information that not all alcohol tasted like alcohol was new, though; Sasuke might not have been a fan of sweets, but the bitter flavour of alcohol had been obvious enough that he'd assumed it would stand out in anything.

The question caught him by surprise -- he only had time to nod in confusion before Obito had moved on to Hinata. He liked tomato juice just fine, though given the choice he preferred just eating an actual tomato to the salt-saturated flavour of the canned juices, but unless Obito was planning on trying to hide alcohol in some he didn't see how it was relevant.

Hinata would have to agree, she'd witnessed the damage first hand of the boy above them when Neji would come home. The two of them were really unlikely to end up like that. She didn't know a single Hyuuga that handled their alcohol so poorly. Granted very few ever drank to excess but that wasn't beside the point. She'd never thought that alcohol would taste any differently or could be hidden. And the news that maybe it could be bothered her.

"Something fruity." She answers shooting Obito a confused look that she was sure Sasuke was echoing at the mention of tomato juice. Chewing on her lower lip she shrugs, she didn't really have a preference on beverage as long as it had an obvious fruit taste, and she doubted he was looking for her to say tea, even if it was her most common beverage choice.

Obito looked from one to the other with thoughtful eyes, a bit more serious this time when he spoke. "I'm not doing this to just play with you guys, you do realize that, right? It's information we all should have. The only reason I'm not dragging Naruto along too is because honestly, his mother is the most terrifying woman in this country and it would be terrible for Konoha to need a Rokudaime so soon."

His lips quirked up wryly and he shook his head, heading off to the market. "Time to introduce you to some variety then."

"So ... Naruto gets out of this because you're more scared of Kushina-san than our parents," Sasuke said flatly, tone deeply unimpressed despite Obito's explanation. "Yet this is supposed to be about controlling yourself when drunk?"

Naruto wasn't always able to control himself when stone cold sober, and he was the one who actually had Kushina for a mother. It was enough that Sasuke folded his arms even as he followed Obito -- because it wasn't like they were going to be getting a choice, here -- resisting the urge to roll his eyes only out of the vague thought that he was too old for something like that.

Stifling a groan she followed after both of them. So much for convincing her sensei to change his mind. To be honest she wasn't surprised to hear that he was more scared of Naruto's mother than either of their fathers. Trudging on she wasn't looking forward to this in the slightest. "Sensei can we hurry this up and get this over with?"

If this is something that is going to happen one way or another she'd like to get it done. A sentiment she hoped Sasuke would share at this point.

Obito rolled his eyes, plucking things off the shelves and putting them in the arms of his genin. "Fine, make yourself useful, carry things." And into the arms went an assortment of juice, fruit, snacks, and bottles of alcohol of various kinds.

Then he headed to the counter to pay for the lot.

Sasuke was in full agreement with Hinata at this point, giving the pile of groceries in his arms a dark look. They'd both obviously resigned themselves to this particular whim -- or lesson, rather -- of Obito's by now, and all that was left was to get through it. Hopefully without raising suspicion as to why the Hyuuga heir was wandering around drunk with a pair of Uchiha. Hiashi gave Sasuke enough dark looks as it was.

"Sensei, even if we take these to the counter, people won't let us buy them," he pointed out. "Are you paying for everything?"

She eyed the items in her arms and gave Obito a confused look. She doesn't know what to make of half the things in her arms. Frowning she tries to hold them away from her like they were poison. She can only hope that the getting drunk part happens fast and she can go home immediately afterward.

Except that could be problematic she's only ever had one drink before, stumbling around could lead to her collapsing somewhere and oh her father would kill her if she passed out drunk on the side of the road. "And what about after you get us drunk? Are you escorting us home?"

"You really believe that would be a good idea?" It was asked point blank as he peered at Hinata's face, then headed toward the counter with the two in tow, making sure to grab some diner for them all on his way. He'd be sure to feed them.

"And no, I'm paying for everything, don't worry about that."

"No," Sasuke answered for Hinata, shooting her an appalled look. He got glares enough from Hiashi and some of the other Hyuuga whenever he stopped by the gates to their part of the village -- even Naruto got a cheerier reception at times, and Naruto fit into the Hyuuga houses about as well as, well, as Naruto could.

He did take the opportunity of Obito's focus on Hinata to slip a few packets of convenience-store onigiri into his armload of things, though. As long as Obito was paying for this misadventure, there was no harm in taking advantage.
