If Gai felt truly foolish about this, he would never have agreed.

Still, standing in Obito's bedroom with nothing but a scarf thrown over his shoulders and another tied at his waist, Gai wondered if Obito was going to laugh at him. Maybe the waist scarf was a little too much.

What exactly was proper protocol for naked scarf dances?

He had been practicing a routine (fully clothed, of course) all day yesterday, and he was quite happy with it! Obito should be thrilled! Plus, there was dinner (which they would prepare together, but Gai was certain Obito would very much enjoy) and there would be dessert, and then they could relax and spend the evening together! It would be the best birthday Obito had had in a long time, surely! That was not overconfidence speaking!

Gai waited until he heard the door close behind Obito before stepping into the doorway between the livingroom and the bedroom. He grinned at him, tossed a tail of the scarf over on shoulder dramatically, then posed with his hands on his hips. "Happy Birthday, my Hokage."

"Oh no, they're all mine now, and that means I can do whatever I like." He leaned forward, kissing high on his thigh before returning to his work. "Including wrappign you in them."

He shifted, changing weight between his feet as blood rushed downward. "Oh. Okay." He put a hand on Obito's head partly as a means to steady himself.

He noticed, leaning forward and nuzzling his hip through the fall of cloth before adding a couple more scarves to make sure his front was sufficiently protected.

"Obito!!" His fingers tightened, not getting much of a grip on the short hair, and he tried to calm himself, breathing in and out of his nose slowly. "You are going to make dinner a very difficult task, I think."

He flashed a brilliant smile up his body, then pushed to his feet. "Yes?"

"Yes." He grinned back and pulled Obito in for a kiss. "But I do enjoy challenges."

He kissed him again, then ran his fingers up his shoulders. "Better?"

He shivered, excited by the touch. "If by better you mean more covered, yes." If by better Obito meant less turned on or lessdistracted, that was a big no. "Shall we go make dinner?"

"Yeah, I'd like that." He kneaded once, then moved his hands to his forearms and slid his hands down to his wrists.

Now Obito had to be doing that on purpose. He wondered how he could possibly make it through dinner without it devolving into at least a make out session. Gai took another slow, deep breath and stepped towards the door, not breaking their contact.

He stepped after him, squeezing his wrists as he moved in close enough to breathe against his jaw. "What are we making?"

Gai practically melted and had to clear his throat before speaking. "Uh. Sweet-and-sour fish. Steamed vegetables. Um." He eyed Obito and a slow smile drew over his face as he tried to turn this teasing around. "Of course if you would prefer to make something else, I am willing to accommodate! I am very flexible."

There was some heat in his eyes as he met Gai's gaze. "Oh yes, I noticed. But... I think right now I'm happy with what you picked."

He held that intense gaze. "If you should change your mind, all you have to do is say. Now, let us get you fed."

He nodded, not looking away once as he went with him off to the kitchen. He still hadn't released him. "Fed is good."

Gai didn't want to release him either. "It is. I intend to make sure you are full and satisfied!" And he meant that with regards to food; the potential double meaning hadn't even occurred to him.

"Oh I'm sure you do." He gave him a wicked smirk, then finally freed one of his hands to reach up and run his fingers along his cheekbone.

He understood that wicked smirk at least. "You are incorrigible. I wonder if you really do want dinner." He leaned into the touch and used his freed hand to put an arm around him low on Obito's waist.

He stepped in so they were chest to chest and gave him a radiant smile. "Of course I do."

That smile was beautiful. Gai beamed, breathless and unable to take his eyes off that enchanting face. "Okay. Yes, right! Dinner! Of course!" He started to step back, to pull away from Obito's hold, then changed his mind, leaned in and pulled him close again, sweeping him in for a deep kiss.

He leaned up, kissing him back without hesitating at all, and both his hands slid up, over Gai's shoulders with a low appreciative hum. Of course he wasn't going to protest. Sure, it slowed them down a little but they'd get there quickly enough. For now, kissing. Definitely kissing.

Which was the only reason his hands didn't migrate from his shoulders.

Gai never felt so unable to focus as he did when with Obito. There was something very intoxicating about his presence, something Gai noticed even before he realized he was in love, somewhere between their initial friendship and now. If he was driven to distraction around Kakashi--and he was--it was different. Maybe the distinction was that he wanted Kakashi to notice him, wanted to show off for him. With Obito, he just couldn't stop noticing Obito. Ironic, considering how little he noticed him before their friendship.

But no. He could focus. Definitely. He could take his hands off Obito's waist and... Gai gave Obito another soft kiss before breaking away. "I promised dinner! I must remember this is your birthday, not mine!"

He laughed and trailed his hands over his shoulders, up his neck to ruffle once through his hair before pulling them away. "And what's that supposed to mean, mm?"

"That you are not my gift to unwrap!" He hid his embarrassment by turning away and pulling out the dinner supplies.

He laughed again and ran his fingers down his spine. "Maybe later. So, how do I get to help?"
