Summary:  Yuffie’s running away and she runs into Peter.


Her movements were quick as she dashed through the crowded streets. She wasn’t really keeping track where she was going, she only focused on getting away. She could hear some angry shouts as she first fled but they quickly died down. It didn't matter; she had to get away.

Yuffie took a sharp turn down a thin alley emerging other the other side with relative grace. A flash of brightly colored hair came into view and she pressed her heels into the ground skidding to an abrupt halt. She successfully avoided running into him only to land on her butt looking up at the stranger.

"Whoa!"

Yuffie would have carried him up the tree if need be. Together they slowly made their way up with Yuffie leading and then holding out a hand if Peter needed it. She was used to climbing this particular tree so it was easy for her.

"We're almost there."

A few branches later and they stop. Yuffie pulled two of the thin branches together and quickly ties them into a little hammock. She sat at it's center looking over the city. "You can't see everything but we are pretty high up." She waved him into her little nest with a smile. Good thing they were young and light.

He eyed the branch for only a moment before deciding that it was more than adequate and settling next to her, looking out over the village with curious eyes. "It looks like there's less water from up here than down there."

Yuffie giggled at that. "You get used to the water. I think it's weird not being around water."

She looked over at Peter with a wide smile. "Kiri is the greatest." She loved her home.

"I'm used to having to walk for hours to get to any big amounts of water so it's pretty neat that's not how it is here."

Yuffie stuck out her tongue. "I can't imagine that. That's so weird." She smiled though kicking her feet over the side of the branch.

"Water is amazing. It can take any shape and it just flows along until it reaches the ocean."

"I dunno, I always liked the feel of solid ground and living things under my feet. Being on the water feels like something is trying to grab me from below all the time, sorry to say so..."

"Well, it's a good thing that you don't live here then." She shook her head slowly. "You never know if the boogeyman will reach out and snag you."

Yuffie shook the branch lightly as if to emphasize her point. She wasn't actually trying to scare him but she couldn't understand what he meant.

He stared at her, eyes widening a touch. "People actually do that here?!"

Yuffie laughed for a good thirty seconds before wiping the tears from her eyes. "Of course not." Not to say it hasn't happened but Yuffie didn't know about it.

"It's a story my mom used to tell me when I was little. It's to get kids to act better." Not that it worked anymore on the young girl.

He huffed at the reaction, then grumbled, clearly put out by the reaction she'd given him. "Rude."

"Oh come on. Didn't you have any stories that your parents told you to do what you were supposed to?" She leaned forward slightly looking up at Peter with an earnest smile.

Yuffie didn't really mean to insult him but she didn't seem to broken up about it either.

"Mostly things about how shinobi steal children for their armies and turn their on their families actually." He gave her a pointed look of 'and I know that's false', eyebrows raised high.

Yuffie blinked. "That does sound scary." She was really glad that wasn't true.

"My mom really liked water monsters for her story. I don't know why but that's what I know." She missed her mom and while her tone became wistful it was still strong and playful.

"My mom... well, we're here even though she tried to have me think I'd be kidnaped so I'm not even sure what that says." He wrinkled up his nose, shaking his head. "That's not helpful at all."

Yuffie laughed at that. "How about this, if you get kidnapped then I'll come save you."

She's determined to be awesome and that wasn't going to change.
