Peter hadn't intended to be away for his birthday, and just hoped that if anyone had remembered, that they weren't going to be upset with him for not being home on the day itself. He'd been headed that way before he got the lead after all, the day before, and thus it was that early on the 15th of May, on his 18th birthday, Peter took a straight path East instead of north, hopping the seal to somewhere else not Rice on a quest for an obscure, and honestly, not very important scroll. Still, it was a scroll he'd been looking for and that was honestly what mattered here.

"She wasn't from a civilian family." It was a mumble and he shifted on his feet.

"That's a stupid reason to not like a child." It's harsher than she intends initially. He just kept saying things that echoed her childhood a little too closely.

"So what's your name since we sharing?"

[lostmarauder]

He gave her a helpless shrug because he'd never liked that either after all. "Peter."

[sensethis]

She laughs before catching herself and shakes her head. It wasn't at him. "I knew a boy named Peter when I was little. Was never really sure what happened to him after- ...after Grass took me in as a ward." she finishes lamely, the words a rush as if she's embarrassed.

Peter wasn't actually as stupid as his skills might paint him to be, and he looked back to her, studying her intently then, biting his lower lip. "You're Karin aren't you?"

She nods, a quick dip of her chin accompanied by a shrug. "Yeah it's, uh, been awhile." She doesn't usually find herself at such a loss for words, but then she isn't reunited with a childhood friend everyday. "So how are your parents?"

"No idea." It was a murmur, and he flushed, looking down and away before looking sideways at her. "I haven't seen them for years, not since I left."

"Oh. How have you been? Miss me?" She nudges him a little her way of saying it's okay. She's got that bratty grin on her face that he should remember from when they were kids.

"I got to be a shinobi." He huffed a breath and looked sideways at her with a wry little smile. "But.. yeah. I'm glad you're not dead."

Stepping back Karin studies him an approving smile forming. "That's not something I expected to hear if I ever ran into you again, but I like it."

"I couldn't just stay home anymore after you were gone, so... I sorted myself out." He relaxed when she seemed pleased. "I'm happy you're happy though."

[sensethis]

"You make it sound like I might have been upset you're a ninja." And maybe she would have if they were still children.

[lostmarauder]

"I... I don't know. Maybe I was worried you'd be mad?"

[sensethis]

"Not this time. It got you out of Grass Country."

[lostmarauder]

"And into Rice. I guess I like vegetation."

[sensethis]

Snort. "And your jokes still suck."

[lostmarauder]

"I didn't think it was so bad..."

[sensethis]

"Well it made me snort so it's better than the ones you told me when we were kids."

[lostmarauder]

"I think those were just... a bit too mature is all."

[sensethis]

"Peter they were awful."

[lostmarauder]

"....You sure?"

[sensethis]

"Positive."

[lostmarauder]

"...I really didn't remember it that way, that's kind of sad."

[sensethis]

"How did you remember it?"

[lostmarauder]

"I was exceedingly clever."
