Gai had been working on his resolutions, first in anticipation of what to write to his father on the lantern, and now in preparation of the New Year. Usually, most of Gai's resolutions were focused solely on himself, and nearly all of them were things he had control over the outcome, but sometimes...sometimes they were things he required another person for.

☐ Be a better boyfriend.

To be honest, he wasn't sure how to be that, but he was definitely going to try. His resolution list in his notebook at home included self-suggestions on how to improve:

      • invest in more time with them
      • behave do not intrude on matters that do not concern you (they do not all concern you)
      • be more affectionate
      • say 'I love you' more often
      • hold their hands
      • strive to learn something new about them each time you see them
      • more challenges
      • be nicer to Yamato their friends
      • take them out on dates/excusions/lunches
      • renew kissing practice?

And it was that last one that had Gai here now, because while the ball was in his court for most of the others, kissing practice was something Obito had to want again too. They hadn't exactly done much of that since becoming boyfriends and he felt a little selfish wanting that back so badly. After all, kissing was not all he saw in Obito and he did not want his friend to think that was all he was here for, but...

He missed it. Kissing Obito had been like challenging Kakashi: a perfect excuse for being together. And kissing Obito had been really, really wonderful, too. He made Gai's heart flutter with excitement, took his breath away--

Surely Obito, who liked kissing people and flirting with people and all of that, would want kissing practice back, right? That was what he hoped, at least.

Gai knocked on the door to Obito's office and then peeked in. "Hokage-sama! When you are not busy, may I speak to you about something personal?"

"So I favor all three." Gai took a step after him, leaning in close enough to kiss him without doing so.

He breathed out, tipping his head up, but not making contact either, then another step back. "So it doesn't matter what you pick, right?"

He could feel Obito's breath against his lips and cheek. "As long as I can touch you, and as long as you like it." Gai took a step forward and then another one, perhaps too close that he would be forcing Obito back. "Do you have something in mind?"

He shivered and straightened his back, taking another step away, then a second, circling sideways so he didn't end up against the wall. "Maybe once we get there."

Gai turned to follow as Obito circled, unwilling to let him escape. It was a bit like a chase, a different kind of challenge or dance than with Kakashi, and he enjoyed the pursuit. He grinned and leaned down to murmur against Obito's ear. "Do not be impatient, Obito. I shall get you there."

Was he supposed to enjoy the implications as much as he was when Gai did that? The man felt like he was taking up all the space around him and it was good. He gave a breathless laugh.

"And what made you think I doubted that?"

He held still for a moment, then slipped around him, staying close this time instead of moving away, but none the less made Gai have to put in a little effort if he wanted to touch him from there, his fingers not quite brushing the back of Gai's shoulder.

Considering the thrill Gai got out of making those implications, he was welcome to enjoy them. "Nothing. I just wanted you to know."

Apparently this was a chase, because there Obito was ducking out of reach again and Gai felt a giddy excitement and a playful frustration shiver through him at the touch and, as he turned, his hands reached immediately for Obito's waist. He didn't wait for Obito to dance away again, instead bending down and hefting Obito up over his shoulder.

"Ha!"

He wasn't even shocked, though he did pout at Gai's back when he found himself dangling upside down. "So you opted on me trying to get you to stumble huh?" He planted both hands on his backside.

"Obito!!" He gave a scandalized gasp, his cheeks burning even as one of his own hands settled on Obito's rear. "Do not make me drop you!". Once he was sure Obito was secure, however, he headed for the window to start towards Obito's apartment.

Fair's fair! He grinned against his vest and gave a squeeze before Gai really got going. "You won't drop me. Go on then, I'll get a head rush."

If Obito kept teasing him, Gai would be tempted to turn right around and go back to the office--to hell with privacy. But he could certainly behave and was not going to let himself get that distracted...

He pat Obito's rear as he took off, moderating his speed for Obito but trying to be quick. "Both of us might," he said quietly as he took to the rooftops.

He smirked, then planted his hands on the small of his back. He didn't actually want to tempt the man into more public displays of that extent after all. It was harder to properly take the man in when he was worried someone would come wandering in, as much of a rush as that had been. "Wouldn't want that."

Gai laughed. Obito was just as charming upside down.

As they approached Obito's apartment, the ANBU guards monitoring the location seemed to be wondering just why their Hokage was being carried home with such urgency and if this was an emergency they should worry about. Gai gave them thumbs up, hoped for no questions (or that Obito would answer the truly embarrassing ones), and set to work on the seals at the window. Once it was open, he carried Obito inside.

He quickly waved the ANBU down with a blush and was pretty sure that they figured out the direction of things given how quickly they backed off into the woodwork.

As soon as they were inside, he squirmed. "Okay, now what's your plan?"

Those poor ANBU.

"My plan? I thought you said you had a plan!!" He thought he had a plan of his own, but now he was kind of flustered at being asked! He was supposed yo talk about it? How, when his face was a deep red. Obito squirming did not help his thoughts either. "Hmph! Carrying you to bed, maybe!"

"Determined to hang onto me?" He gave another squirm and hs hands slid back down. "But I can't do anything from here... so maybe you should walk quickly mm?"

He kicked off his shoes while Gai was stalled by the window.

"Always!" Gai squirmed as well and closed the window behind them before starting for Obito's bedroom.

"Hmph! You need to learn to be patient! Perhaps I will walk slowly just because!"

"I'm pretty sure I can find things to entertain me." He shifted, flexing his hands and shifting his weight so he was more upright than dangling.

"As much as I would like to see that..." And would he ever. He pushed the door open and stopped now at the foot of the bed.

Gai took a deep breath. ...Obito's bed.

No...do not get emotional now, he told himself, and he carefully lowered Obito off his shoulder and down to stand on his own.

He peered up at his face, sobering for a moment as he studied his face. He didn't see anything that implied they were stopping now though so... he stepped away, then shrugged his robe off and draped it over his chair. "That's better, yeah?"

Gai smiled and nodded, unable to take his eyes off Obito. "Much better," he agreed, kicking off his own shoes and then dropping his vest onto the same chair as he stepped closer.

How to break the new tension that wanted to set in... hmmmm....

"Much much better." He then stepped in close, humming in a breath.

Then he ducked under his arm with a little smirk and ran his hands down his back.

Evasive again! But Gai melted under his touch, pressing back into those hands that were so welcome wherever they wanted to go. "It is hardly fair if I cannot look and touch, too." He peered over his shoulder at Obito and, grinning, reached back to try to grab him and pull him closer.

He ran his fingers down Gai's arm but came around his other side instead, a small smirk coming to his lips. "What can I say, maybe I want to feel like you put a little effort into catching me."

So elusive! Then again, Obito had a knack for slipping past attacks; Gai should not be too surprised that he managed to evade! Such skill!

If it weren't for the playful and sexy tone, Gai might have cringed. He hadn't exactly chased Obito all these years and he should have. Obito had made most of the moves so far, but...Gai would make it up to him, somehow.

"You would doubt my effort?" He made a grab for Obito's waist as he turned towards him, feeling the guilt of a moment ago dissolve into the thrill of their game of chase earlier. "I would chase you the world over just to bask in your smile."
