Summary:  Yuffie’s running away and she runs into Peter.


Her movements were quick as she dashed through the crowded streets. She wasn’t really keeping track where she was going, she only focused on getting away. She could hear some angry shouts as she first fled but they quickly died down. It didn't matter; she had to get away.

Yuffie took a sharp turn down a thin alley emerging other the other side with relative grace. A flash of brightly colored hair came into view and she pressed her heels into the ground skidding to an abrupt halt. She successfully avoided running into him only to land on her butt looking up at the stranger.

"Whoa!"

"That is correct." Yuffie smiled at that before grabbing another bun from her plate. She wasted no time shoving it in her mouth. Her gaze flicked over towards Peter.

"What's your name again?"

Had she asked that?

"You didn't give me yours either." He snickered softly, then picked up another bit himself. "Peter."

"Mmmm, that's a cool name." She continued eating for a moment longer before turning back to Peter.

"Yuffie."

With that she continued to eat finishing her second bun and moving to her third.

"Yours sounds more normal than mine." His smile was wry, and he shook his head, sheepish. "But I like it anyway."

Yuffie placed her palm on his head with a wide smile. "Am I to Normal for you?"

She was kidding but she liked to tease.

"What?" He felt his eyes go wide,e though he didn't shake her off. "I didn't mean it like that!"

She moved her hand and smiled. "I'm just kidding."

"I know that." Yuffie finished her last bun licking her fingers before turning on the stool to face Peter. "What you want to do next? I was thinking of heading anywhere in that direction."

He huffed a couple times, then paid before sliding off the stool without a thought. "Is there anything cool that way?"

She looked back at him. "I don't know." She hadn't gotten out all that much lately but if nothing has changed she remembered a very interesting tree in that direction. It was big with fat branches that could easily be climbed.

"Want to see?"

He looked her over, then gave her a bright smile. "Sure!"

She was glad he wasn't going to ask for more elaboration. Yuffie wasn't the sort who liked to explain her actions. She made her way towards the tree that she vague remembered with a comfortable smile on her lips.

"Tell me more about you." She put her hands behind her head looking over at Peter.

"I'm not from here. Um. I get chased around a lot at home too..." He gave her a sheepish smile. "I don't know, what do you wanna know?"

Yuffie rolled her eyes. "I know you aren't from here." It wasn't so hard to guess that much. "Why do you get chased around a lot? Where all have you been? Have you every thought about fighting back against those who chase you?"

She continued ahead, her questions rolling off like rapid fire.

"I'm not very strong and do better hiding so not really and I've been. Uh, everywhere! All over. My parents like to travel sometimes and they take me with them." By everywhere, he meant not very many places at all, but he was young, he'd figure out the difference.

As they walked Yuffie paused. She heard something nearby but she quickly dismissed it as nothing and continued. They were almost by the tree that she thought was still there. When the space she remembered came into sight he'd see it too.

Her lips curled into a smile. "Let's go!"

Peter was still alert because he was in a strange place, so every sound caught his attention but... it wasn't like he could tell what was normal, and instead he simply took off toward the tree after a glance to the girl to make sure it was alright.

Yuffie didn't really notice his glance towards her. She was already running towards the tree and jumping up onto the first branch. She turned around holding out her hand in case Peter needed help getting up.

"Come on!"

He peered up at the tree, then jumped to try himself, grabbing her hand as he scrambled further up. It was difficult, but he was good at climbing, if not very fast, and almost never fell.

Yuffie would have carried him up the tree if need be. Together they slowly made their way up with Yuffie leading and then holding out a hand if Peter needed it. She was used to climbing this particular tree so it was easy for her.

"We're almost there."

A few branches later and they stop. Yuffie pulled two of the thin branches together and quickly ties them into a little hammock. She sat at it's center looking over the city. "You can't see everything but we are pretty high up." She waved him into her little nest with a smile. Good thing they were young and light.

He eyed the branch for only a moment before deciding that it was more than adequate and settling next to her, looking out over the village with curious eyes. "It looks like there's less water from up here than down there."

Yuffie giggled at that. "You get used to the water. I think it's weird not being around water."

She looked over at Peter with a wide smile. "Kiri is the greatest." She loved her home.

"I'm used to having to walk for hours to get to any big amounts of water so it's pretty neat that's not how it is here."

Yuffie stuck out her tongue. "I can't imagine that. That's so weird." She smiled though kicking her feet over the side of the branch.

"Water is amazing. It can take any shape and it just flows along until it reaches the ocean."

"I dunno, I always liked the feel of solid ground and living things under my feet. Being on the water feels like something is trying to grab me from below all the time, sorry to say so..."

"Well, it's a good thing that you don't live here then." She shook her head slowly. "You never know if the boogeyman will reach out and snag you."

Yuffie shook the branch lightly as if to emphasize her point. She wasn't actually trying to scare him but she couldn't understand what he meant.
