Summary: Yuffie’s running away and she runs into Peter.

Her movements were quick as she dashed through the crowded streets. She wasn’t really keeping track where she was going, she only focused on getting away. She could hear some angry shouts as she first fled but they quickly died down. It didn't matter; she had to get away.

Yuffie took a sharp turn down a thin alley emerging other the other side with relative grace. A flash of brightly colored hair came into view and she pressed her heels into the ground skidding to an abrupt halt. She successfully avoided running into him only to land on her butt looking up at the stranger.

"Whoa!"

If he had protested Yuffie would have probably tried to pull him along anyway. She turned down a few allies skipping over streets until they were looking at a street with rows and rows of shops and food stands.

"Let's get food." Not that Yuffie had a lot of money on her but she was hungry and wasn't sure where else to go.

He had to wonder why the few people he'd run in wanted to feed him, but he wasn't exactly protesting, instead giving the girl a bright smile. "I can pay, what's your favorite?"

Yuffie's first reaction to anything was to go towards food. Food was great and it was the one thing that always cheered people up! That and other people paying for food.

"Mmmmm." She hummed softly looking over the shops and breathing in the rich smells. "Steamed dumplings." Specifically the really big ones that you can just munch on.

He blinked, then gave her a bright smile. "Okay! We can do that! Where at?"

"This way!" Yuffie pulled at his hand again running towards a shop that sat a few spaces down from them. It was an open shop with seats lined in front of it while an older man was kneading dough.

Yuffie dropped Peters hand and then gestured for him to sit. "Food is the best. Though if you want to do something else we can too. I'm sure there is something we can sneak into." She glanced around once before resting her elbows on the counter.

He peeked back behind him, not having forgotten she'd been running too, then looked back to her with a grin. "After we eat maybe?"

Usually when Yuffie suggested something stupid like sneaking into a place she got a mixture of funny looks and disapproving stares. It was nice to finally have someone agree with her. She smiled and turned towards the cook.

"2 orders of pork buns!" She held up two fingers and a heart beat later the man was placing a plate in front of both of them. There were only three buns on the plate but they were almost the size of Yuffie's head.

Yuffie wasted no time shoveling one of the tangy sweet buns into her mouth. "There really good!" She spoke with her mouth full and was very difficult to understand.

He had no idea why she seemed so thrilled all the sudden, but he wasn't about to turn away the food once it got there, reaching out and picking one up, careful not to burn himself on it as he took a big bite and nodded his agreement to her.

"Why were you running?"

Yuffie felt her shoulders tense at the question. With food still in her mouth she turned towards Peter inspecting him curiously as she swallowed.

"Because there was something to run from." She would skirt the issue as long as she possibly could.

"I'm not going to run away from you if you tell me. I've seen scarier than people here." He peeked sideways at her. "Honest."

It wasn't so much that she thought he might run away. She just didn't want to talk about it.

"Yeah, I guess that's true." Yuffie sighed finishing her first bun. "For lack of a better way to explain it, I was running from ... a teacher." Yeah, let's go with that. No names needed.

He stared at her for a moment, then made a noise of understanding. "Not someone you like listening to huh?"

"That is correct." Yuffie smiled at that before grabbing another bun from her plate. She wasted no time shoving it in her mouth. Her gaze flicked over towards Peter.

"What's your name again?"

Had she asked that?

"You didn't give me yours either." He snickered softly, then picked up another bit himself. "Peter."

"Mmmm, that's a cool name." She continued eating for a moment longer before turning back to Peter.

"Yuffie."

With that she continued to eat finishing her second bun and moving to her third.

"Yours sounds more normal than mine." His smile was wry, and he shook his head, sheepish. "But I like it anyway."

Yuffie placed her palm on his head with a wide smile. "Am I to Normal for you?"

She was kidding but she liked to tease.

"What?" He felt his eyes go wide,e though he didn't shake her off. "I didn't mean it like that!"

She moved her hand and smiled. "I'm just kidding."

"I know that." Yuffie finished her last bun licking her fingers before turning on the stool to face Peter. "What you want to do next? I was thinking of heading anywhere in that direction."

He huffed a couple times, then paid before sliding off the stool without a thought. "Is there anything cool that way?"

She looked back at him. "I don't know." She hadn't gotten out all that much lately but if nothing has changed she remembered a very interesting tree in that direction. It was big with fat branches that could easily be climbed.

"Want to see?"

He looked her over, then gave her a bright smile. "Sure!"

She was glad he wasn't going to ask for more elaboration. Yuffie wasn't the sort who liked to explain her actions. She made her way towards the tree that she vague remembered with a comfortable smile on her lips.

"Tell me more about you." She put her hands behind her head looking over at Peter.

"I'm not from here. Um. I get chased around a lot at home too..." He gave her a sheepish smile. "I don't know, what do you wanna know?"

Yuffie rolled her eyes. "I know you aren't from here." It wasn't so hard to guess that much. "Why do you get chased around a lot? Where all have you been? Have you every thought about fighting back against those who chase you?"

She continued ahead, her questions rolling off like rapid fire.
